Heavy kevlar line for some special tackle rigging
February 22, 2021
I bought this specially for bridal style flatfall jig rigging and it is what works well. Some bridal style jigs rigging require heavier line as much as 200lb to 300lb strength. This line holds up well and are easy to rig. Great stuff!

great for making assist hook rigs
April 30, 2020
I make all my own assist hooks and I prefer this due to the abrasion resistance for toothy fish. I have caught several kingfish on jigs and this assist cord did not get cut. The line shows some damage after many fish but I never felt the need to change it out on a trip. I typically wait till i get home to retie the assist hooks.

Tough but it does fray
September 25, 2018
The line is tough but does fray when you cut it for assist hooks. I superglued the ends just to be safe but that is a hassle.

Time to make your own assist hooks!
April 21, 2017
With bigger bluefin the last couple of years in the Southern California bight than we've seen in a lifetime, the chances of a trophy have never been higher. Plus, they're biting all manners of flat falls, surface irons, and stick baits. No need to rely on stock assist hooks that may not be up to the challenge. With this Tuf-Line cord, you know what's under the shrink wrap! Good stuff, nice and strong, and sufficiently pliable for the knots that'll give you confidence when you hook that toad!
Pros
  • Strong, abrasion resistant, pliable
Cons
  • Doesn't burn/melt to tidy up the frayed ends

Great for making stinger hooks
April 22, 2016
I use these to make my own stinger or dancing hooks that I affix to butterfly jigs, which I use jigging for tuna. This kevlar cord holds up well. I once caught a king fish (sharp teeth) and by the time I had gotten the king fish into the boat the cord was torn up, but still held together enough to reel in that king fish.
Pros
  • strong
  • holds up well to sharp tooth fish
Cons
  • none

Doesn't hold up
March 8, 2015
I was excited to get this roll of Kevlar. I was looking to replace the 550 cord in my Go Bags with it. I wanted a smaller cord that would also hold my weight of 250 lbs and so I ordered the 300 lb test.

I set it up and stepped into the loop I made. I pulled myself up, then started to transfer the weight to the Kevlar loop. The cord snapped. I am very disappointed.

It does cut thru PVC pipe. I was curious about that so I gave it a try. That bumped my rating to a 2-star.

I'll look to see if there something bigger I can order, but not sure if doing so will defeat the purpose of my goal.

Keeping the 550 cord as of right now.

Matt
Pros
  • Small diameter cord
  • Cuts PVC
Cons
  • Failed to hold up 250 lbs.

Pros
  • Thin and supple

  • Frays when cut

i see the same diameter cord for 300 and 500 lbs ??? 0.68" is it possible ?
1 Answer
According to Western Filament, the difference in diameter between the 300# and 500# cord is measured in the 1/1000 and therefore they round up. They are virtually identical diameters
