Premium quality construction, components and performance are all precision matched in the Tsunami Trophy and Classic series of rods produced by Bimini Bay Outfitters Performance Products. Tough unidirectional graphite composite blanks are wrapped in an ultra-high modulus graphite mesh outer layer over the length of the unidirectional blank for increased sensitivity, toughness, power and strength to overcome trophy size gamefish.

Light weight and strength mean less angler fatigue while fighting the biggest fish with better energy transfer and more force directed to the fish. The graphite mesh aids in refining each rod action to assure the best of energy storage and transfer on every cast or during the toughest fight.
  • Increased Sensitivity
  • Easy assembly
  • High Modulus mesh
  • Unidirectional Graphite

I travel to Florida every summer and I use this rod to throw giant 2-5oz lures in search of any lunker Snook that might be swimming up the coast. Its hard to find a 7-8' heavy travel rod that can handle throwing heavy 8-10" swimbaits that weigh close to 4oz. I paired this rod with a Penn Slammer III 5500. It's a perfect combo. I absolutely love it. For a heavy power rod its also incredibly sensitive and has the perfect amount of flex. I've caught some very large Snook on it and never felt like I was even close to pushing the rod's limit. The guides are nice and big. My one and only caveat is that I wish it had a proper rubber butt cap for the aluminum gimbal. This is a beast of a rod. If I could only bring one rod with me when I travel this would be the one, hands down.
Pros
  • Strong
  • Sensitive
  • Large guides
  • 1-6oz lure weight
  • Travel friendly
Cons
  • No hard case
  • No rubber gimbal cover for stand up use

best rod brand out there for the price

They are literally manufactured around the corner from where i live ( less than 5 miles) in Mahwah NJ and are truly fantastic. I would recommend this company to anyone, plain and simple. This is my current pole from bottom fishing to Mahi Mahi and even smaller sharks. I even caught a 300+lb shark on my tsunami reel rated for 40 lb and my tsunami pole rated for 80-100 pound line in a chum slick 10 ft from the boat and wrenched him in. My father went out and bought a $300 custom rod years back for it's lightness and sensitivity, but when i handed him my rod to hold so i could get a sandwich, he he wouldn't give it back and went out and bought one of these. The thing is so sensitive you can literally feel the types of ocean floor terrain you are on, and distinguish bites from that, and also it is light as a feather.
Pros
  • Well worth the money. Very sensitive. Light as a feather. Strong poles. Very good looking.
Cons
  • Absolutely none. Best rod i have ever used, and i have used a lot!

Great construction

I was looking for a travel friendly counterpart to my UglyStik Tiger casting rod. With that in mind, I needed a rod that is constructed with durability and robust components in mind. This rod fits the bill very well. Although the rod is 3-piece, it has very similar action to my 2-piece UglyStik Tiger. Guide diameters are a little smaller than other similar rods, so reeling a bigger knot onto the reel and casting with a bigger knot on the line may be an issue with larger diameter line. As a boat rod that sits in a rod holder for trolling application, this would be great. As a rod you hold in hand for bottom fishing for freelining bait, the rod is quite weighty.

This rod is best suited for light trolling application.
Pros
  • Great blank action for a 3-piece rod, beautiful guides, secure reel seat, bonus aluminum gimble.
Cons
  • Small guide diameter, a bit heavy if held in hand for extended period.

DO you feel like this would be adequate for inshore Baja? Fish generally 10-20 pounds, though there are 50 pounders in the area. Typically 30-50 pound braid.

thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul, The Tsunami TSTBS 703H Travel Kayak Boat Rod would be great for your fishing application. However since its currently sold out, I would also recommend the Daiwa SATR632MHS Saltiga Saltwater Travel Spinning Rod. This would also be a great rod for targeting inshore Baja species. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-satr632mhs-saltiga-saltwater-travel-spinning-rod.html Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Does this item come with a carry case or do I need to purchase one
1 Answer
It comes with a "case", but it is a soft fabric with a few different sewn sections to hold the pieces individually, and a string to roll it up and tie it together.

I just bought 2 of these for the Bahamas ..I keep a boat down there..I was looking for a good reef rod that can handle bucktails up to 4 oz ..we fish grouper and do quite well but the normal travel rod doesn't have the backbone to pull the grouper from the reef..these poles seem to be sufficient..what reels would should suggest matching them to? Is an 8,000 series enough or do we need to go heavier reel wise?
1 Answer
That would really depend on what kind of grouper you are going for. For smaller species like Red and Gag grouper, I would feel like you would be fine using an 8000 size real. I would recommend the Shimano Twinpower or Saragosa, and also the Penn Spinfisher V in the 6500 size. Those reels should be appropriate for the grouper that you are going for.
