Boasting features and components frequently seen in rods well beyond its price point, the Tsunami SaltX Surf Spinning Rods mark a significant step forward in affordable performance engineered surf rods. In a market where high performance surf fishing gear is becoming more attainable for all anglers, the Tsunami SaltX Surf Rods and 100% waterproof SaltX Spinning Reels make the perfect pair for the avid surf angler who pushes their gear to the limits.  Featuring a unique eight-axis blank with D16 Nanotech and IM7 carbon fiber construction, the SaltX Surf Rods achieve the ideal moderate action to load properly and sling lures forward well past the breakers while retaining incredible hoop strength. While most surf rods only truly excel at casting lures within the middle range of the rod's rated lure weight (often referred to by surf casters as the rod's "sweet spot"), anglers will find the SaltX to be a phenomenal caster of lures at both the lighter and heavier end of the respective model's lure rating. Sparing no expense in terms of components, the SaltX is fitted with genuine Fuji silicon carbide K-frame guides and Fuji graphite and stainless steel reel seats with back stop lock rings. Handles are wrapped with comfortable shrink vinyl grips and a set of unique scale textured stops at each end of the reel seat and on the butt cap.

Features:

  • 100% D16 Nanotech, IM7 carbon fiber construction
  • Eight axis blank construction for greatest hoop strength
  • Genuine Fuji silicon carbide braid proof, K-frame guides
  • Genuine Fuji graphite and stainless steel reel seats with Back Stop Lock Rings
  • 70 / 30 split ferrule for smooth, one piece action
  • Durable, light weight shrink vinyl grips with scale textured stops
  • Tough, high gloss epoxy wrap finish

Surprising Light
April 1, 2022
Bought the 9'6" Tsunami and was going to pair it with Penn Slammer 5500. Rod was so light the slammer felt a little heavy on it, so I put the battle III 5000 on it and it was perfect. Casting 1oz bucktail for striper at a local damn and had a blast. Going to buy 10'6" to put with the slammer.
Pros
  • Strong back bone
  • Castability
Cons
  • None

11ft 1-5 not really for jigging
February 21, 2022
tried one of these rods at the ccc. although it is rated for 5oz, it is really a softer rod, so i found that it was not the best for jigging. it does how ever throw a top water a mile and work it very well. its light, but kind of expensive for being sort of a one trick pony

Can’t say enough for this rod. This is a step higher than the airwave elites. Got the 9’6” and love it. I don’t use custom rods but this is nothing short of a custom rod for me.
Pros
  • Light, sensitive, quality

Amazingly Light

I've only used the rod about a dozen times but the weight and power make it perfect for repeated long casting 1-2 oz lures. I've paired the rod with a SaltX600 which is a nice combination. The rod is so light compared to the reel.

Great rod
September 20, 2020
I have this paired with the saltx 6000 bailess and I use it strictly for plugging had a 42 pound striper hammer on this pole and I swore it was a one piece rod the action of this pole made me unsure of the weight of the fish because the rod has no dead spots I recognized yet super light layout just wish it had a hook holder but my go to setup now the Fiji k guides are super smooth and pretty durable no scratches or anything even hooking my plugs on the guide

What does this rod weigh? I'm surprised that rod weights are often not included in product specifications. If your holding it all day and casting lures it sure matters to me. Is there another website that gives product weights for these rods?  Thanks.

I'm looking to put an outfit together for the Cape Cod Canal for both surface lures & jigging.  How about your thoughts on what I'm considering below and a recommendation if different.

Here is what I'm considering.

Tsunami 11' 1-5oz TSSTXSS1102H  and a & Penn Spin Caster VI 5500 Long Cast or a Van Steal VRX-150

Hi Frank, For the Cape Cod Canal, We recommend you go heavier with your gear. A heavier rod that can handle the fishing you will be doing are the TFO Surf Spinning rod 10ft 6in rated 2-6 ( https://www.tackledirect.com/temple-fork-outfitters-tactical-surf-spinning-rods.html ), or the ODM DNA rated either 1-5 or 3-8 in 11ft ( https://www.tackledirect.com/odm-dna-surf-rods.html ). These rods share similar rating to your option but have more back bone for heavier current. For the reel we recommend going to a 7500 long cast as it offers more line capacity to fish the sweeping currents and deeper water. Please feel free to contact us for any further questions or assistance! Tight lines!
