The rod is responsive enough for its purpose. If you're fishing a tandem Gulp! rig with the 5-6" bucktail on the bottom and teaser on top you can probably get away with a little more weight than recommended for jigging since the buoyancy of the Gulp! tends to counteract the weight of the jig when one is actively jigging.
Only "con" as stated on my review for the recommended/matching Quantum Accurist baitcast reel is that the two don't mate together well at the reel stand/rod's reel seat. I'm not sure whether it's the size and shape of the reel stand or the rod's reel seat but I've had the Accurist pop off the Tsunami rod while fighting fish (and it's happened to others with this youtube combo). Perhaps it's because the target market for small baitcast reels is freshwater anglers, and an inshore saltwater rod's reel seat is made to accommodate more rugged saltwater reels with a "meatier" reel stand.
I applied some teflon tape to the threads of the reel seat before tightening down the rod's locknut and it has mitigated the problem thus far.
- great action
- poor quality, breaks
- Value. Price.
- None.
- Backbone
- Great price
- Great for fluking
The one issue that I had with the rod is that near the tip, it the blank started to splinter. I have not abused and only seen ten fishing out on the salt. I am assuming that this is not typical, as I ave not read many problems like this. If anyone from Tsunami reads this, I would love to ask about this rod or the next iteration. At this current price, I would totally consider purchasing this rod again.
- Nice action for light bucktailing.
- Stronger than you'd think for such a light rod.
- I had a problem with the tip splintering.
- Very light, sensitive and built very well. Couple that with Tsunami customer service A++

However, the 701XH was purchased for heavier bucktails or chicken rig setups. Took it out the other day and while trying to break off from a snag, the rod snapped in half. Very disappointing to say the least
- I'm giving this 3 stars specifically for the 701H. Light, yet powerful, and cost effective. You won't find a better priced rod for handling lighter bucktails (2-3 oz)
- Quality of the 701XH is something to be desired. Could've just been a bad blank..... but I dunno. Shouldn't just break like that on a snag when trying to free it
Anybody fish hard with these rods?
I personally fish southeastern New England...heavy on Stripers and Blues. 50 + fish on each trip easy...ranging from small schoolies to 20lbrs and above.
I've found we put our rods through serious work outs. So i'm curious about these...considering the price. Thanks in advance.
