probando la marca tsunami (testing the tsunami brand)
August 5, 2022
fue la primera rod de la marca tsunami que compre, no la utilice mucho pero cuando por fin la puse aprueba con una barracuda grande termino quebrada.
(It was the first Tsunami brand rod that I bought, I didn't use it much but when I finally put it to the test with a large barracuda it ended up broken.)
Pros
  • facil de transportar (easy to transport)
Cons
  • la calidad del material depende del costo (the quality of the material depends on the cost)

Well made and very tough

The shorter versions make great boat rods - I use the 8’ MH 2pc. rod for heavy vertical jigging and trolling in my kayak and boat for stripers, and it does not disappoint. It’s a bit too slow of an action (not stated by manufacturer, but probably Moderate to MF) for casting and retrieving plugs or swim baits, but that’s not the point of this rod.
Pros
  • Graphite
  • Tough
  • Large Guides
Cons
  • If you intend to use the 8' version for surf fishing, it won't make a great plug rod - it's best at throwing heavy lead and chunks.

Great Rod
October 22, 2019
Great performing rod. Bought the 7' heavy action spinner, paired to a Penn SSV4500. Awesome light weight combo. Can throw plugs all day without wearing out your arm. Did great work on schoolie to keeper sized stripers. And had enough backbone to put the brakes on a 50lb bass.
Pros
  • Great rod for the price. No complaints.
Cons
  • Cork tape on rear grip wore after a few boat trips in rod holder.

Great rod, well made and great feel. Love the aesthetics and performance. I'd give it 5 stars but I feel like it's a little lighter than what's it's rated for. I have trouble trying to load up and throw 3oz plugs. Wish I could exchange for the 11 foot Heavy. All in all, for the price and quality and performance 5 stars. Great value
Pros

  • Aesthetics
  • Performance

  • Value
Cons
  • Seems lighter than what it's rated for

great value Surf rod
March 13, 2019
A substantial rod, capable of handling big lures and baits while still providing a sensitive and powerful action to handle those big Stripers.
Compares very favourably with significantly more expensive rods.
Pros
  • Price. Good quality finish. Powerful action.

Great rod for the price
March 4, 2019
While I have not had a chance to fish with this rod yet I am impressed with the build quality. I like to keep one heavy action surf rod around for those times when you need throw 8-10 ounces past a sand bar. From what I have seen so far this rod should work perfectly. After matching it with my trusty old Penn 750SSM I tested it by tying a 5lb kettle ball to the line and lifting it off the ground and bouncing. If the rod is going to fail I won't it to fail at home, and not when I have a big Bull Red on the hook. It handled the kettle ball with no issues, I was impressed.
Pros
  • Great price for a quality rod.

For the surf

Nice light rod. Plan to match with Penn SLAIII6500 for bait fishing or Penn SSV6500BLS for plugging the Atlantic. Just waiting for April 15th (opening day for stripers in NY) to put it to work.
Pros
  • Light weight. 50/50 split makes it easy to transport in a Camaro.

Beast of a surf rod.
Pros
  • Tip is still sensitive enough to see small critters hitting at your bait.
Cons
  • Gimbal little wider than my other rods. Had to go up a size on pvc surf rod holder. Not really a con but just do fit test before heading out.

What reel would you pair with this rod? Braid or mono?
1 Answer
Any 5000-6000 size reel will pair well with this. We have Spinfisher V's on sale right now, the 6500 will match well with this rod. Especially if you are bait fishing or live lining that reel has a LL feature. You can also check out the Daiwa BG or Daiwa Saltist. If you like Shimano, the Shimano Saragosa will be an awesome reel to pair with this rod as well. Braided line or Mono line is more of a preference. Depending on what you are targeting, the waters you are fishing and many other factors will help determine was is better.

I was giving a Penn 525 mag reel in the box. It’s an older model. Thought this might pair well with it. Looking for a chunking rod. Something that will throw 6-8 oz sinker with bait.
1 Answer
The Tsunami TSTSC 1202XH Trophy Surf Casting Rod would be a good match to pair with the Penn 525 mag reel for the application you want to use the combo for.
