Big believer in this company

was a little new to the Tsunami brand a few years back and decided to get a trophy series rod after trying my son's. Absolutely loved it and still do till this day. When i found out Tsunami made reels i wanted to hold and test one out before i bought one but nobody seems to carry them around where I live. Happened upon a gentleman fishing off a pier one day with one and asked how he liked it and let me give it a whirl. Have to say it is pretty smooth and seems pretty powerful with an above average amount of drag for the price. Don't know if it would be my first choice, but if i were on a budget for $180 and 30 lbs of drag I would definitely consider it a big win for it's price range compared to a lot of other reels.
Pros
  • price and drag at 30lbs

I used the Tsunami Forged 10 reel 3 times so far the past two weeks for salmon trolling off the Northern California coast. Love the lever drag as it is easy to adjust while fighting fish or bringing in the 3lb weight. Last time I had a fish on the 40 lb braid got caught up between the spool and body of the reel. Had to handline the fish in and take the reel in to take apart and get the line out. Love the reel and just hope this doesn't happen again.

good rell so far. My buddy actually owns a charter boat ( in NJ) and i'm sot saying what marina. That being said i actually get to try a lot of reels and rods

this one is decent reel if you like a decent retrieve/ bottom jigging pole reel combo.. doesn't have the problems that some of the Penns have because of the release. We all know what were talking about there ( especially the international 975's).....sigh. Used a tsunami pole and reel combo for going on 3 yrs now and countless reels to boot. They are literally manufactured around the corner from where i live ( less than 5 miles) in Mahwah NJ and are truly fantastic. I would recommend this company to anyone, plain and simple. I even caught a 300+lb shark on my tsunami reel rated for 40 lb and my tsunami pole rated for 80-100 pound line in a chum slick 10 ft from the boat and wrenched him in. No bearing replacement like Diawa ( had to order custom ceramic aftermarket). Just maintain it and she's good to go.
Pros
  • beautiful, well constructed poles and reels
  • Extremely light.
  • Sensitive like you cant believe (on the pole and reel combo, ESPECIALLY ON THE POLES!).
  • My father has a $300.00 plus pole that he had custom made. Mine is just as sensitive, and he liked it so much he actually bought the same one as me ( The Tsunami is is better! period, and the reel is flat out a beast when it comes down to)
  • I use it from everything like bottom fishing to small to medium sharks and Dorado, and has never failed once.
Cons
  • none at all
  • literally none, and i've owned a lot of rods and reels over my 25 + years fishing.

Fantastic performance!

Reel performs great, the only thing I can say negative is I am using early season for stripers and the metal tends to hold the cold, but hey it's cold outside!!! Performance wise this is a beast!!! Could not be any more happy!

I am looking at this reel for bottom fishing for Halibut and Lingcod in Puget sound.  Is this reel suitable for this?  Also, what is line capacity for 80 or 85 pound braid for the 12 model, I cant find it on the specs?
1 Answer
The 12 size would be good but with 80 lb braid you'll be lacking in line capacity. I would look at one of the Accurate bv models
