Only Maja...

The rods were made with a perfect balance to troll mojos. Other rods used for Mojos have a very stiff backbone, which is needed because in most cases we are trolling 24oz or more. However, the Maja Mojo Rod gives you the stiff back, but a fast tip, which allows the angler more action and provides for a better experience fighting a fish. At first I was concerned about the guides as they appear to be a bit thin/light, but these are a special Fuji Alconite guides and are super tough. The light guides, with the light but sturdy blank are a perfect match. The reel seat is the old reliable aluminum, which doesn't provide any wobble like a composite might. The rods are equipped with an aluminum gimbal (much better than some of those plastic ones) in case you need to use a fighting belt or just want to lock it into the pole holder. Overall, if you are going to be trolling Mojos or any deep divers, you should definitely check out the Maja Mojo Rod.
Pros
  • Light
  • Strong Back through the Center
  • Light Tip provides great action
  • Aluminum Seat
  • Aluminum Gimbal
Cons
  • I usually prefer a 7' rod on my boat so I can work it around the motors better while I'm fighting a fish.

Mojo trolling rods:

Nice light action trolling rods, caught 5 bass first day out on green and white MOJO's,
teamed the rods with Shimano 600 LC reels makes for a nice combo.
Pros
  • Light action rod
Cons
  • Would prefer silver reel seats in lieu of the gold seats to match Tony Maja 8' bunker spoon trolling rods.

Do you have the mojo rod in stock? Also can you tell me the length of the rear grip and the fore grip. I’m trying to determine if it will be too long for shorter fishermen . What reel you recommend.
1 Answer
These are still on pre-order.

Would this rod be suitable for Gulf Stream fishing for 30 to 50 pound criters fished with 6 to 10 ounces dropped on a double hook rig,  I typically use 65 lb, braid with a 100 lb, shock leader.

Thanks in advance for your time. God bless and "tight lines", Kentucky Mike.

Would this rod work for trolling an umbrella rig with 6inch swim shad teasers and a lighter mojo in the center? Looking to get something that would be suitable for trolling Mojos, spoons and the umbrella rig. Thanks.
1 Answer
This rod would work well for that scenario. Just take into account the added drag in the water while using the umbrella rig with the mojo.

Best Reel options for these rods?
1 Answer
A lot of different options you can go with depending on personal preference, but here are a few options we would recommend to pair up with the Tony Maja Mojo Rod:

Shimano Torium Star Drag Reels, especially ones with the power handle. Nice feature for cold conditions where you may be wearing gloves. Sizes 16/20/30 are all really similar in size besides width of spool. 16 holds plenty if this is strictly going to be used for this application

Avet JX or LX. Same reel, just a wider spool on the LX.

If you are fishing with anglers who do not fish much, the Shimano Tekota is a nice option since it has the built in levelwind and you do not have to worry about the line bunching up if they are not thumbing it across the spool. They also have models with a built in line counter, which is really nice to get back to the same position easily if the fish are locked in to a particular depth. 600 Line counter model would match up well on this rod:

What test line are you reccomending for this rod?  Kind of weird not to see a line test range on a rod, or reel for that matter.
1 Answer
Unfortunately Tony Maja does not list that information, but we would recommend 30-65 braid.
