This is a GREAT reel for the inshore fisherman... fresh water, brackish, or surf this reel is prime time. SUPER SMOOTH DRAG! like super smooth man!! I paired mine with a 7'3 lamiglass black and PP V2 20lb, I absolutely love it!

f0r the price this reel is a literally a great piece and for light tackle lures, 1/2 - 2 oz the drag is perfect.
Pros
  • DRAG SYSTEM!!!
Cons
  • Scratch and stain

SX1500 again a great buy

I'm not the only guy who likes the Libra SX and know of another with over 15 years on the older Libra SA. For my money, Libra SX is the best $100 reel you can buy, and I've fished them side-by-side with a new Stradic FL. If you can double the ante, go with the Stradic. My niche is XUL salt rockfish rod with 6-lb copolymer, and swapping spool to 10-lb braid for a Falcon Open Hook special - retiring the Penn 4200SS my daughter grew up fishing.
Recently went through the exercise comparing with a Stradic FL-1000, but this lighter niche doesn't need all those great design features. No significant weight difference and identical capacities. The Libra has long-spool/oscillation, but does with their improved version eccentric gear. Not being sealed (but has sealed bearings) is a bonus in the incredible smoothness and balance of this reel. I have 9 years on a Tica Cetus SS on one salt XUL, 3 years on a Libra SX3000 inshore. I take care of my reels, and each trip gets a good bath, clean the shaft spindle and a drop of lube. A smooth, adequate, finely adjustable drag. And again, good response from Tica US getting me that 2nd spool.
Pros
  • Super smooth; great drag, long-spool/oscillation

Amazing buy

I've fished a Libra SX3000 now several years in the salt. I bought it because I was so impressed with a Cetus SS500 I've used for XUL salt on a Japanese rockfish rod over 8 years now (including big fish). I've fished the Libra on nearly a dozen inshore kayak trips, and I'm even more impressed with this reel. It retired my 30-y-o Penn 4400SS to back-up status. The long spool lets it casts out of sight, especially on a long ML rod, and the drag has performed flawlessly on all inshore species, including speckled trout, redfish, and snook - a double +snook on a spec rig. I've never handled a smoother reel. TicaAmerica Customer Service is also responsive, making it easy to pick up a spare spool. A nice feature on these spools is the line hook, making them easy to store. Capacity is perfect for inshore, a little over 200 yds Seaguar Red Label 12-lb fluoro.
Pros
  • Great drag, long spool for casting distance, good capacity, Super Smooth, holds up in salt

what would the braid capacity be on the SX6000  ...and would it hold up to surf casting stripers, snook and small coastal sharks...

The sx6000 would be a good choice for the type of fishing you want to do.
