Temple Fork Outfitters Gary Loomis' Professional Series Heroes on the Water Rods, through the combined efforts of Cory Routh, Dean Thomas, Fil Spencer and Gary Loomis, were designed specifically to benefit "Heroes on the Water". HOW rods are metallic blue with matching wraps and red tipping. The HOW logo is prominently displayed on the middle of the fire engine red split grip. A reduced fighting butt helps navigate the tight quarters and rod holders in your favorite kayak. TFO will make a donation to Heroes on the Water for every HOW rod that is sold through an authorized TFO dealer.

Heroes on the Water helps wounded warriors relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate through kayak fishing and the outdoors. The primary goal of the program is to assist these injured service members with their physical and mental recovery by introducing them to the therapeutic qualities of fishing from kayaks. The program allows the participants a chance to decompress from the stresses associated with combat and the rigors of rehabilitation. Wounded veterans join the kayak fishing "band of brothers" on guided fishing trips held at various locations around the country.

An $8.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

Love this rod

I bought the 7' light version of this rod. I pair this with a 3k stradic on it and I love it. It casts well has good sensitivity and feel. I've caught spanish mackerel, rockfish and puppy drum with it.
Pros
  • great warranty and good value price
Cons
  • TD doesn't have many in stock.

Nice rod but different than model shown.

I thought I was getting a split grip handle as shown. The rod I received has a straight grip. Overall great rod just wish I got the split grip the description should’ve been more specific

Nice rod but on the heavy side

Nice casting rod but it's too heavy for me to comfortably cast all day.

Excellent rod and great value

These rods really are one of the best for inshore if you are not looking to spend a lot, considering the price point and quality. They can hold their own against some of the much higher priced rods out there. Recommend.

Great rod at a great price

I have two of these rods and have used them for about a year. No problems at all and I inshore fish about once to twice a week. I have the 7'6" medium fast. One paired with a Diawa Fuego 3000 and the other with a Diawa BG 2500. I use mostly light jig heads and weighted hooks with soft plastics and this rod casts them a country mile. The rod is sensitive and also has enough backbone to handle 30+ inch snook. I will be buying more of these in the future.
Pros
  • Casts light lures far and is sensitive with backbone.

Very nice rod!

I haven't had a chance to fish it yet but the rod is light, stiff and well balanced. I paired it with a Penn Conflict and I can't wait to fish this super light combo. Great rod for the money. The only down side is I thought I was or a Gary Loomis series rod.
Pros
  • Nice rod for the money.
Cons
  • Don't be fooled into thinking it is a Gary Loomis series rod.

This rod came highly recommended for inshore saltwater fishing using artificial baits.
Pros
  • Rod is very light with a strong backbone and guick tip for setting the hook with artificial bait.

Nice blank, but guides are questionable.
January 9, 2019
I like the rod, did well fishing for most inshore fishing, but the guides are pretty much crap. I had 5 guides break with what I would consider normal use. Rinsed off after salt water use, etc. I’m having the broken guides replaced today, which will cost about 50$. If this were a cheaper rod I’d chunk it but feel the rod is worth and nice enough to spend the money as opposed to spending another 60$ to buy a new one.
Pros
  • Sensitive, good back bone, not uncomfortable after a day of fishing.
Cons
  • Short rear grip, but that can be a positive for twitching etc. but will make it more difficult to make further cast with less effort when needed.

I just learned about this product ,
December 17, 2018
I bought this rod and had it shipped to my new summer location in N.C. , I'm very impressed .
so now im back in Puerto Rico for the winter, and after breaking my "MOJO" rod on a 30'' tarpon on a north shore beach, I bought another .
Great rod , Why pay 21/2 times the price ? now catching jacks , yellow tail snappers and have all the confidence for the next tarpon .
Pros
  • all good , not faults .
Cons
  • none yet

This is not a Signature Rod
August 27, 2018
This is a Professional Rod. This rod is not the same as the signature rod that Gary Loomis designed for TFO a years back, finish is cheaper and so are the eyes. Rod tip is all together different. If I new these were Professional rods I would not have ordered them.
Pros
  • none
Cons
  • Wrong listing.

Not the same rod.
August 5, 2018
Ordered 3 of these rods from Tackle Direct. They sent me 2 of the rods with 1 more to come. The two rods I received are the Professional rods which are a cheaper made rod, cork is different and the finish is flat black. I have 7 of the signature series rods and I love them and only paid 99.00 for them.
Cons
  • Tackle Direct or TFO has a bad listing.
