The Temple Fork TFD Big Fish Spinning Rods were designed by legendary angler Larry Dahlberg and combine the best characteristics to deliver a lure with both accuracy and distance. These rods work the lure with authority, solidly drive hooks home, and can handle almost anything that swims. With premium cork split grips, extra large tip-tops, and Temple Fork's high modulus carbon fiber blank material, these rods are made to perform. TFD Big Fish Spinning Rods can handle fresh or saltwater applications.
I have it rigged up with a ultra lightweight (for its size) Daiwa Ballistic 6k, and it is a wonderful rod for live or cut bait fishing.
I’ve also used it to jig 1-2 oz spoons and such, and it’s worked very well for that, as well.
The guides are oversized, so if you’re not into tying smaller leader-to-line knots like FG or the Alberto, or if you’re kayak fishing where those can be a bit of a pain, then this rod could serve you nicely as well.
I’m not sure if everyone doesn’t like the style of the reel seat or what, but I’ve found that this is literally only one of two different rods I own where I don’t have to constantly snug up the reel... so there’s that.*
*If you’re wondering, the other rod is a high-end Star VPR for inshore fishing.
- Rugged design
- Two piece allows for easy transport
- Oversized guides
- Reel seat holds its tightness
- It?s not actually a con, but, as with any rod, make sure you check the recommended lure weight for the rod you?re purchasing and match that to your application.
- If you?re trying to throw 1/16th oz or even 1/8? oz jig heads with this... it?s not going to perform well, because it?s not designed to work with something that light.
