Great rod

Purchased this rod back in June, the 9 footer, for bridge and inlet fishing for Snook. Casts 1-3oz lures with ease. Great rod to fight big fish, even in heavy current

The rod is light as a feather and feels like it's quality. Caught a lot of fish on it and no complaints as of yet. This is the second surf rod I own by TFO.

Awesome Surf Rods!
November 15, 2021
I own the 12’ heavy rod rated for 4-10oz and intend to buy at least one more. This past spring it was perfect for pompano being able to drop rigs before and over the bar using a 5000 size reel and 30lb braid. In comparison my 10’ St. Crox could not even come close with the same 4oz weight and fell flat when casting compared to the TFO. Additionally, I have used it this fall for bull red fishing in the pass. It has no problem handling 6oz weights plus bait. It’s length and light weight makes it a versatile rod.
Pros
  • - Color, gotta love the blue
  • - light weight
  • - build quality
  • - price
Cons
  • - No hook keeper

Would you go with the Saragossa 6000 or 8000 size for the

TAC SUS 1106-2

1 Answer
Hi, I would recommend a Shimano Saragosa SW 8000 size Spinning Reel. However since it's currently sold out, I would also recommend a Shimano SPSW8000HGA Spheros SW A Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-spsw8000hga-spheros-sw-a-spinning-reel.html This would pair well with the Temple Fork Outfitters TAC SUS 1106-2 Tactical Surf Spinning Rod for many surf fishing applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

I want to use the 11' medium light rod to throw top water lures for Stripers.  What size Shimano Vanford and Van Staal reel would pair nicely with this rod for a light weight balanced rod reel combo?
1 Answer
Hi Tai, The Shimano Stradic will be light for the setup and wouldn't balance out the rod out and make the setup very tip heavy. We recommend the Shimano Saragosa 5000 or 6000 to help balance out the setup. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!

I will be using this rod to throw top water plugs and 1-2oz bucktails.  What size Shimano Stradic FL reel will pair with a 11' ML Tactical rod?  Also, what size Van Staal VR reel will pair with the 11" ML rod?
1 Answer
Hi Tai, We recommend the 5000 size Shimano Stradic as being the most optimal choice of the stradics to balance the reel or the Van Staal VR125 to balance your setup the best.

Would the Daiwa Saltist MQ 4000 be too small for the 106?
1 Answer
Hi John, The Daiwa Saltist MQ 4000 would be a little too small for the TAC SUS 1064-2 10'6" model. This would be better suited for a surf rod between 7ft - 9ft maximum such as the TAC SUS 904-2 Tactical Surf Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/temple-fork-outfitters-tac-sus-904-2-tactical-surf-spinning-rod.html Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with.
