I bought this rod to try ultralight spinning and it's a blast. It can throw a small spoon like a Mepps Little Wolf a mile with a good reel, and can tire out serious fish. I've taken several dorado with it (the fresh rwater southamerican salmonid, not the saltwater) around 6 pounds without a problem. I guess it works in the concept of a noodle rod, you can't really bring a strong fish in by force, but being a long, medium action rod it does suck up the fight, if you stand your ground using a nice amount of backbone it has the fish have a really hard time stripping line or spitting your hook, the rod protects the line and hookset a lot. It wouldnt be the best choice to pool feisty fish out ov heavy structure, but if you have rom to work its a delight, and you can cast it all day long. The one thing that doesnt work are the reel rings. I kept throwing my reel in the water till i ended taping a fuji ls6 reel seat to the handle. You could tape the reel directly yo the handle but this way it retains it's portability.

Excellent - very stiff fast sensitive high quality graphite - a strong butt section with fast flexible tip section - ideal travel rod for pike, musky, lake trout, big walleye, big bass, steelhead, coho/silver salmon, big brown trout, channel cats, et c. (casting or trolling) also 'light' saltwater - recommended as a heavy longish freshwater casting or light saltwater/surf casting travel rod. Incredibly light and compact in its rod bag, while being a powerhouse hawg-hauler when unleashed. Very pleased with this rod.

Not good (I returned it today) - the tip section is a fly rod tip section with snakes and a loop tip guide, the middle two pieces are spinning rod like with Fuji guides - the butt section is like a fly rod's (short) but with rings for variable positioning of the reel. It might be OK for fly fishing but the butt is too short to balance a spinning reel on - I have several 4-piece fly rods so this is no good to me. This rod is supposed to be a fly/spin tool but it is too compromised to be ideal for either function in my opinion. Will keep search for a longish 4 pc light spinning rod.

This said - the other Temple Fork Rods I have are EXCELLENT - this one is an exception.

Picked up the Spinning 8'8" MAG M. Works great in the surf and on boat. The first fish I caught on this rod was over 35lbs and it held up with no problem. Looking forward to catching many more with it. I had it paired with a VS150 and could launch my lures way past everyone else. Definitely glad I bought it.
