I rec'd this rod today. I thought the rod is quite stiff for a jigging rod. My other rod (different brand) is a ML and much more limber. I was looking for a little heavier but same flex. I'll use it for other applications.
Pros
  • Good quality
Cons
  • Too stiff for a jig rod

This is a nice rod for the money. Had plenty of spine for bouncing different rigs off the bottom of the ocean. Plenty of spine with 8oz of weight on.

This is perfect for me and my 16 ft skiff.(large kayak) Short enough to land rock fish in limited space and enough back bone to crank in those flatties! Perfect sensitivity with 6oz or 8oz jig. Great price! Great rod! Couldn’t be happier.
Pros
  • Very well built rod for the money your paying
Cons
  • Being picky; no hook keeper

Great for Kayak Jigging
May 17, 2021
Just got this rod recently. Took it out on my kayak a few times. So far it's been great. It's light and well-balanced. I can jig this rod for a lot longer than my old one without getting tired.

How mny ounces is this rod? The rear grip, butt to reel seat, how many inches is that? I'm debating between this and the Shimano Trevala C. I love the weight and rear grip on the Trevala. What's the warranty on this? Thank you

Hello Thuan, the rod weighs 1 pound even, the rear grip is 12 inches up to the reel seat, the silver hook series also comes with a limited one year warranty.

This rod weighs 12 oz. and the reel handle measures 15" from the end to the bottom of the reel seat. The Tackledirect Silverhook rods are covered under a 1 year warranty from manufacturing defects directly through Tackledirect.

Im looking for a jig rod for my nine  year old son to use. A lot of salt water rods are uncomfortable for him to use.   What is the length of the handle, from the bottom to where the spinning reel comes out at a 90 degree angle?
1 Answer
Hi, The TackleDirect TDSSJ63M Silver Hook Series Spin Jigging Rod has a length of 17-3/4" or 17.75" inches measured from the bottom of the rod but to the bottom of the top opening of the reel seat where the reel would be. Does the reel seat lock down on a Cabo 80? Im struggling to find a rod that fits the reel foot and will properly lock down.
1 Answer
Matt,

The TDSSJ63M is really meant for a 4000/5000 size reel and will not balance or fit properly with an 80 or 8000 size reel. The OTI rod https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-fb60200s-fathom-blade-spinning-rod.html will be able to handle and lock properly that 80 size Cabo.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Gerg

March 21, 2022
so I'm new to this jigging fishing so I have 2 questions if that's ok... #1 would this rod suit southern California jig fishing? #2 what size reel would you put with this rod?
1 Answer
Hi Gerg, The TackleDirect TDSSJ63M Silver Hook Series Spin Jigging Rod would be great for working jigs up to 200grams. I would recommend a Shimano SRG5000SWAXG Saragosa SW A Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-srg5000swaxg-saragosa-sw-a-spinning-reel.html This would pair nicely and be great for jigging applications in southern California. I saw it mentioned that this is good striper/bluefish rod which is what im looking for but people are also talking about 100 lb tuna.  I don't want something too heavy duty for the slot size stripers and 5-10 lb bluefish.  I am considering using it with a l

8inch jigging spoon.

1 Answer
Hi Todd, Depending on what size spoons your using I would recommend model: TDSBS701MH; TD Code: TDA-0263. https://www.tackledirect.com/tackledirect-tdsbs701mh-custom-saltwater-boat-spinning-rod.html. This rod is a bit softer than the TackleDirect TDSSJ63M Silver Hook Series Spin Jigging Rod and will have a little more flex. This would be ideal for stripers and bluefish fishing inshore. How would this rod pair with a quantum smoke #30
1 Answer
The TackleDirect TDSSJ63M Silver Hook Series Spin Jigging Rod would be too heavy for the smoke 30 size reel. Your going to want to use a heavier jigging reel on this rod such as a Shimano Saragosa or Penn Slammer models.
