Great Rod - Super Value
June 22, 2020
So, bought 2 of them to go live lining for Kingfish in south FL, they didn't disappoint! We paired them up with Shimano baitrunners using 50 lb braid with a 30lb floro topshop and caught 4 in the 25 lb range.....the rods handled them like a champ! Plenty of bend when needed yet stout enough to bring them to the boat with confidence. So happy we bought 2 more!!
Pros
  • Price
  • Look and feel
  • Quality seat, butt and guides

Great All Purpose Rod
August 29, 2022
Bought this for a day chasing Blues, Stripers and Sea Bass. It caught fish casting and trolling both big fish and small. Fuji guides are a nice touch. Gimbal mount with butt cover worked out well. No complaints here!
Pros
  • Nice Guides
  • Versatile Rod for many applications
Cons
  • Not the best for light jigs but not what it was really meant for.

Very nice spinning road for off shore, caught several good red snappers and hooked up on several taxmen. Rod has plenty of backbone. Paired with a Diawa BG 4500 and a Diawa BG 5000. Great combo.

Best heavy spinner boat rod
February 20, 2022
The rod to bring a tarpon boat side or a snapper of the bottom. If you want value and backbone, this is a great rod. Have mine paired with a Daiwa BG. Solid set that won’t break the bank.
Pros
  • Quality and cost

Great Affordable Saltwater Rod
July 25, 2021
Own two of these rods I use on Chesapeake Bay for live bait cobia fishing and occasional trolling. Feel very sturdy and well built under the pressure of large fish. Also stiff enough to troll a #1 and probably #2 in line planer. A little too stout to be used as a go to casting rod and would need to be throwing something over 2 ounces. Just ordered a jigging rod from TD becasue I like the way these feel so much

All purpose rod
May 8, 2021
Bought for my mom (who loves to fish!) as an all purpose rod. In my couple days with it, I think it's a little heavy as far as actual weight is concerned, but that it will hold up to the use and abuse that Jersey has to offer, from fluke to small tuna.

WOW!! A Great Rod at a Great Price!!
November 16, 2020
This is one beautiful rod!
Pros
  • Hybrid mix of fiberglass & graphite should make this indestructible! Real nice Fuji new Concept guides! Great looking guide wraps & nice accents overall make this a very attractive rod especially for the price. I bought this to replace a Penn Battalion rod that snapped in half under minimal pressure and doubt if this would do the same!!
Cons
  • no hook keeper

No more Ugly
July 10, 2019
I have twelve old Ugly Stix. The new ones...not so impressed. Bought this. Ripped in 50 lb blacktops...great rod for the money, maybe the best.
Pros
  • Quality components, great grip, perfect spine angle, Inice action,
Cons
  • Not a featherweight, but way light enough for me, and I'll take toughness over a couple oz anyday

Awesome Boat rod.

I used this boat rod on my trip to deep sea fishing and all I can say is perfect. It is sensitive enough to feel every bite of the fish to your line & good enough to cast your lure or bait far.

I bought one of these rods 2 years ago, it's holding up very well. Freshwater wash after every use keeps it looking new and the guides handle that 30# braid without issues. I'm so pleased I went and bought 2 more rods this summer, a great rod and a great value. Thank you Tackle Direct

Would this rod be stout enough to target and more importantly land grouper off a fishing pier? With structure/rocks/reefs being as long as 20-50 yards, will this rod be sufficient and strong enough to get the grouper away from those rock piles? And what is the action of the rod?

Hi Mike, the TackleDirect Silver Hook Boat rod will work for your application. We also recommend looking at the Ocean Tackle International Fathom Blade Jigging rods in the 5ft 6in 400g rated rod for a shorter stouter rod. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!

how would a shimamo bait runner 3500b work for this rod, also what is correct line size for the reel,i was thinking 40lb
1 Answer
Hi Roy, The TackleDirect TDSBS701MH Silver Hook Series Boat Spinning Rod would pair great with a Shimano Baitrunner 3500 B. I would recommend 40lb PowerPro Super Slick V2 Braided Line in a 300yd spool. https://www.tackledirect.com/powerpro-super-slick-v2-braided-line-40lb-300yds.html This would compliment your rod and reel well and be ideal for many saltwater fishing applications. I would recommend a TackleDirect TDSSJ561H Silver Hook Spinning Jigging Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/tackledirect-tdssj561h-silver-hook-spinning-jigging-rod.html This would pair well with your Shimano Baitrunner 12000 and be ideal for your offshore fishing applications. How does this compare to the similar size tsunami saphire? I am looking to pair with a Diawa BG 4000 or 5000? for 2-3 ounce ava jigs and 9 inch flutter spoons.
1 Answer
Hi Todd, What specific model of the Tsunami Sapphire are you comparing? The TackleDirect TDSBS701MH Silver Hook Series Boat Spinning Rod is a has Fuji Series Concept guides, and custom shrink grips over cushioned EVA core. The Tsunami SABSXT 701MH Sapphire XT Boat Spinning Rod has stainless steel frame aluminum oxide guides, and has graphite & stainless steel seats. Both of these rods are similar because these models are the same action and have the same line rating. However, The TackleDirect Silver Hook Series Boat Spinning Rod has a higher lure weight rating than that of the Tsunami Sapphire XT Boat Spinning Rod. The TackleDirect Silver Hook rod has a lure rating rated from 1-5oz. The Tsunami Sapphire XT Spinning Rod has a lure weight rating from 3/4 - 4oz. This suggests that the TackleDirect Silver Hook Series Boat Spinning Rod is a stronger rod due to the lure rating alone. This in tern will lead to a much more durable rod in the long run. However, The TackleDirect TDSBS701MH Silver Hook Series has a lure weight rating of 1-5oz, and is a Medium Heavy action where the Star SGB70H Paraflex Rod has a lure rating of 1-6oz, and is a Heavy Action rod that is stiffer. This rod would be too small for a reel that size. Take a look at the Tsunami TSCSHDBSII701H-B Carbon Shield II Boat Spinning Rod. This rod would balance better with that reel and the specs would be better suited for the type of fishing you plan on doing.
