Assembled for blue water anglers looking for reliable high performance trolling setups at a fair price, the TackleDirect Silver Hook/Shimano SpeedMaster Conventional Combos are an absolute no brainer. By pairing our Silver Hook Standup Conventional Rod with the best bang-for-your-buck conventional reel on the market, it's never been easier to be properly equipped for your next trip out to the canyons. Our Silver Hook Standup Conventional Rod is constructed with a precision blend of graphite and fiberglass for superior strength, and features quality components like Aluminum Oxide turbo guides, textured shrink vinyl grips, and a graphite hooded reel seat. These 6-1/2 foot trolling rods come paired with your choice between a 20 or 25 sized Shimano SpeedMaster II Lever Drag Conventional Reel. Whether you are trolling, chunking, live-lining or jigging, the SpeedMaster II has the wide adjustable drag and high torque power you can rely on to come out on top. Not limited to just trolling, these combos would do well serving as the work horses of your arsenal, as they can be used equally as well for live bait and chunking applications for pelagic species like sailfish, wahoo, king mackerel, tuna, and dolphin.

The article in Florida Sportsman said the Torium 16 was a good reel for slow-pitch jigging. How would this reel compare and is it suitable with this rod for slow pitch jogging?

Hi Terence, The TackleDirect Silver Hook/Shimano SpeedMaster Conventional Combos are intended to be used as either a chunking or trolling combo. This is specifically not intended to be used as a slow pitch jigging setup. The Shimano SPM16II SpeedMaster II Lever Drag Reel would be a great reel for slow pitch jigging. However since it's currently sold out, I would also recommend a Shimano TOR16HGA Torium Star Drag Conventional Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tor16hga-torium-star-drag-reel.html This would pair well with a Shimano GRPLJC63MH Grappler Type LJ Jigging Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-grpljc63mh-grappler-type-lj-jigging-rod.html This would be a ideal setup for many slow pitch jigging applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
