Great combo
October 23, 2021
I had a chance to fish with it tonight and reeled in a 25 in stripper with relative ease.
Reel is light and smooth.
Rod is sensitive and really light also. Seems well made.
Pros
  • Light set up
Cons
  • Rod butt has nice cork material but it feels too short to me.
  • Also the individual rod pieces shifted on me after every ten casts or so and I had to re align guides ? not a huge issue just something to be aware off especially fishing at night so the rod doesn?t come apart

Excellent Value and Performance
October 17, 2021
I have used this for surf casting, light jigging, pier fishing, and top water on an ocean kayak off of reefs and the combo has exceeded my expectations. The battle iii dx is an outstanding value, I was very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the Tackle Direct rod.

My only complaints are the reel seat could have been of a nicer quality, only because it isn’t at the same level as the rest of the rod, that is to say the reel seat is of a quality I expected for the price but the guides and blank are way nicer than I thought they would be. This set up has been prone to throwing wind knots but I suspect that is because Tackle Direct put the entire spool of braid on the reel so it’s over lined by 40 yards. I’m going to take off some braid and hopefully that will fix the issue.

Caught 3 - 4 lb Jacks on top water with absolutely no issue and still has good sensitivity for sea mullet and spot.

I’d give the combo a 4.5 out of 5.
Pros
  • - High value for the money
  • - DX model with brass gears and EVA knob punches way above its price tag
  • - Quality components and travel tube for the rod
Cons
  • - Reel seat is just okay
  • - Minor line lay issues

Rod just okay
May 30, 2021
My biggest issue with the rod is that the heel of my hand rests on the threaded plastic for the reel seat. So the ergonomics aren't great for me. Rod is of good quality for the money, and the travel tube is nice enough.

This combo is an incredible deal, the stradic alone is almost worth the entire combo. Before it arrived I was nervous that the rod would not be very high quality but once it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. All around an awesome combo I am looking forward to taking it to Costa Rica.
Pros
  • Great price
  • Solid rod
  • great case
