Great Rod
August 27, 2019
i live in michigan but bought this rod for a trip to florida. i wanted a jigging rod that i could do a lot of different things with, and this rod has not let me down. very light and fishable, but never lacking in power. paired with an AVET MXJ, ive used it for jigging and trolling for mahi and tuna. live lined a few baits, and even got buttoned up on a big 250+ pound bull shark. the reel may have been undersized in some situations, but not the rod! ive also used it trolling big baits for muskie and fishing the channels for sturgeon here in michigan. you can feel everything with this rod but get into the back bone quickly with enough shock absorption for even the biggest head shakes. nothing but happy with this rod. and everyone always notes how light and nice to fish with it is.

very happy. very well built.

Great until it's not!

Was impressed by the rod, until it snapped between guides 5 and 6 (from the tip) as I have read from other commenters as well. I was only fighting a ~12 lb grouper...

Best all around rod ever!
August 4, 2022
We bought 2 of these a while back and they have been amazing! I've used them for sailfishing, bottom fishing, jigging for tuna, you name it. It's lightweight, very sensitive. You feel every nibble. I did have to replace one because an inexperienced angler was fighting a Goliath grouper on it and... well..it's not meant for Goliath grouper! But just about everything else! And the price can't be beat!
Pros
  • Sensitive
  • Lightweight
  • Strong

great rod for price.

basically a tsunami copy. Works great for jigging and fills same role as my trevala but at half the price. Wish they had a heavier model but was sold out at the sale price. This is a 10-12 lb of drag rod. Could possibly do more but I hate the trevala spaghetti stick style. I like a bit more control so I limit it to that drag. for the money i am quite satisfied. Got an old Shimano mark 111 jigmaster jr size reel on it with 65 lb braid and 40lb leader. Only use it for metal jigging.

Broke second time used
July 25, 2022
Maybe a bad blank? Got snagged and gave a quick pop to rod to try to get jig to free up. Broke one foot from tip. I wasnt bending a ? Just held low to water and gave it a quick flip!! 30-100 lb braid rated?? Couldnt handle 60 with 50 mono top shot..Handle not comfortable either. The reel seat has so many screw threads that when your hand is near the reel you are not on eva grip. All my rods have seat screw tight from bottom not top. None of my 20 other rods have this issue. Stick to a named brand blank. I have a Shimano TDR-70MHB That I bought for folks that cant fish and for $40 from Big 5 this stick has outperformed the jig rod from Tackle Direct
Pros
  • Cheap. Has fuji components
Cons
  • Blank broke. Handle not comfortable.

Bitter sweet!
July 25, 2022
I purchased 3 of these rods for rock fish. I had 2 of them break at the exact same spot between the 5th and 6th guide from the tip while fighting rockfish under 20 pounds. Tackledirect.com customer service was awesome about making it right. I hope they get the defect fixed because I really like the feel of these rods.
Pros
  • Great grip, action and looks.
Cons
  • Apparent manufacturing error causes rods to break under moderate load.

Jigging rod
September 30, 2021
Great rod! I was in need of another offshore jigging rod but did not want to drain my pocket. I came across the TDSCJ661MH. This light, great action rod feels good out of the box and can handles its own. Took it on a tuna trip in the Gulf and pulled in blackfin tuna with ease. Even caught a 35# Cuda with no issues. Wasn't able to hook a YFT but hope to on my next trip. Great rod, great price. Get one and you'll be satisfied!
Pros
  • Great value
  • Light weight
  • Nice grip
Cons
  • Would like one in 7 ft.

Absolute beef stick and all-round work horse
August 29, 2021
I purchased this rod in order to pair it with my Shimano Tranx 401AHG and absolutely love it for slaying huge calicos, yellow tails, and dorado. I also put on a Penn Fathom 30LDLH and crushed some bluefin with ease. It's light, strong, has good bend and sensitivity, and a very affordable price to compete against the high end rods. Highly recommend it
Pros
  • - Strong
  • - Light
  • - Good action and Sensitivity
Cons
  • - The reel lock clips that twist down to the reel are plastic and prone to flex a little, but it also has 2 twist downs instead of one to lock it in place, so it isn't a huge issue

Would this be a good rod for fluke fishing off Connecticut?  We use 6oz to 14oz sinkers depending on the current.  Thanks
1 Answer
The 6'6 model would be on the light side of what you would need, you may need to go to a heavier jigging rod.

Are the guides straight or acid wrapped?  Looking to pair with a Shimano Tekota 500 LC for bottom fishing.  Using 8-12 oz of lead for Black Sea bass, flounder, etc., mostly in water less than 120 feet deep.

Would be nice to use s a backup option on deep drop tilefish trips

1 Answer
Hi Chris, The guides on the TackleDirect Silver Hook Conventional Jigging rods are conventional and are not acid wrapped. It will pair well with the Tekota 500 LC and would work great for your projected application. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!

Is this rod good for trolling as well as jigging? I have a penn fathom 25 2 speed on a kayak.
1 Answer
Hi Angel, The TackleDirect Silver Hook Conventional Jigging Rods are mainly designed and intended for jigging applications but could be used for light inshore trolling applications. Keep in mind you would want to stay within the lure weight range for the specific model you are using when trolling. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Hi TD,

I am looking to purchase the TD Jigging rod, however before I hit the button I have a couple of questions. I plan on using this rod off the Texas Gulf Coast for Snapper fishing. The water depth is only 70ft where we fish and the largest snapper are around 15LBS. I am currently using 40LBS Mono with no issues. Will the MH action be suitable for this fishing application? Also If I change over to braided line, say 40-50LBS will the rod eyes hold up?

Thanks,

Dan

1 Answer
Hi Daniel, The TackleDirect TDSCJ661MH Silver Hook Conventional Jigging Rod would be fine to use 40lb monofilament line with this rod. The rod guides on this model are Fuji O series and would be fine to use up to 65lb Braided line for this model. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

February 8, 2022
Would this rod be good for basic west coast bottom fishing for rockfish, lingcod, etc.? 16 oz weights are not uncommon. If so, which model would be best, MH or H?
1 Answer
Hi Chris, The TackleDirect Silver Hook Conventional Jigging Rods would be too light for your application if you are going to use 16oz on the rod. Instead I would recommend the Ocean Tackle International FB56500C Fathom Blade 500g Jigging rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/ocean-tackle-international-fb56500c-fathom-blade-casting-rod.html This is a 5'6" conventional jigging rod that can hold up to 17oz or 500grams and would be ideal for your fishing application. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What rod would pair well with the Penn 114H2

1 Answer
Paul,

When comparing both TackleDirect Silver Hook Conventional Jigging Rods, you would want to go with the 6'6 Heavy action rod TDSCJ661H (TDA-1435). This would pair better with the Penn 114H2 than the medium heavy rod and you could use it for a wide range of fishing applications.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with. Wondering if the TDSCJ661H would be good to pair with a FTH60LD2 as a 50-80 lb setup - for Tuna (knife/flat fall jigging, sinker rig style)?
1 Answer
Johann,

The Penn Fathom Lever Drag reel FTH60LD2 will not pair well with the TackleDirect Silver Hook jigging rod TDSCJ661H as the rod will be to light for that application.  The TackleDirect Silver Hook Standup rod TDSSUT601HSB would be a better choice for the 50-80 class combo.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
