Great deal, I feel like I bought a quality reel and got a free rod with it. The Battle DX has been an awesome reel so far, it's not one of those cheapos you see with combos at the big box stores, the upgrades the DX has basically makes it a Slammer IV at Battle prices. The rod is nice too, it is a bit thinner than most MH rods I own, but the strength is there, Nice fuji guides, the rod has a pretty look when the sun hits it, action is quite good for a 2 piece, I was impressed. The thing that really lead me to get this was it came with a travel case. The case is nice and sturdy, I have a smaller Jeep and it forces me to travel with 2 piece and travel rods so this was a no brainer, I can put 2 rods in this case and chuck it in the back without having to worry about damaging them.

My new favorite combo

I recently called tackledirect and I got the medium rod with a 4000 reel. I mainly catfish. I’ve caught three catfish so far. All around the 10 pound mark. You feel everything with this rod. Every headshake. Really makes you feel like you have a monster on. Cast like a rocket. I defiantly recommend this combo to everyone. The case is very durable and well built. I’ve been searching for years for a good setup. Spent a lot of money and I finally found one

What is the length of the travel case? Does this come with an extra spool? Does the reel fit in the case?
I am trying to decide between the 3-piece or 2-piece. I want a fast action rod, but would prefer the three piece if the travel case is shorter.

Michael,
The 2 piece rod case is 42" long and the 3 piece rod case is 32" long. The Penn Battle III DX spinning reel does not come with an extra spool. Also the reel does not fit in the travel case, only the rod. If you want fast action then the 2-piece travel rods would be the way to go, but for the convenience and performance the 3-piece travel rod gets great reviews.
