Unibutt Model Ideal if Limited on Storage Space
First off, the rod has a nice soft action that is ideal for increasing your hook up ratio when targeting white marlin and even sailfish with circle hooks.Still has plenty of power where its needed for fighting a tuna or blue marlin. This model is slightly heavier than the non unibutt model with the slick butt, but for those that need to be able to break the rod down into two sections for storage purposes, it is a great option. Pairs well with your choice of a 20-30lb class conventional lever drag reel.
Pros
  • - Easily breaks down into two pieces for travel or storage purposes
  • - Nice soft tip to help increase hook up ratio
  • - Specifically designed for targeting white marlin with circle hooks
  • - All genuine Fuji guides and Aftco unibutt
  • - Plenty of power in case you hook into a tuna or a blue one
Cons
  • - Slightly heavier than same model with the slick butt

Awesome pitch bait rod for the smaller Black Marlin that come up on the 130's here on the GBR . Do a job on most Striped Marlin also.
Pros
  • Lots of power, nice parabolic bend, quality components.
Cons
  • A Little heavy , need some sort of harness for a longish fight.

Great rod for travel

I have this matched up with an Avet HX reel. Perfect for trolling or casting for Sailfish, Dorado and Crevalle Jack in Mexico. Uni-butt brakes down nicely for travel and has great action for this length rod which makes catching fish in this size range a blast!
Pros
  • Light weight, strong. Fun to fish

Im considering pairing a set of 6 of these rods with the Tyrnos 30 for white Marlin but occasionally a blue pops up as well .

Do you think they have enough backbone as well as the soft tip needed for dredge fishing in the spring in the Bahamas ?

1 Answer
Hi Jon, The TackleDirect Platinum Hook White Marlin Rods would extremely well with the Shimano Tyrnos 30 fishing for white marlin and the occasional blue marlin. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

I am considering using a Shimano TLD-20 single speed reel with this rod. Would this combination work for trolling Sailfish and Dorado or do you have another suggestion?

1 Answer
Yes this reel would perform well paired with this for your fishing application, The retrieve speed on this reel is a little on the slow side, but this is a very popular reel and has been used for these trolling applications for decades
