Having difficulties finding the perfect combo to outfit your new boat or to update your old gear before your next offshore tuna trip? TackleDirect has taken all of the guess work out of matching the industry’s best lever drag trolling reels along with the brand new series of Platinum Hook rods by TackleDirect. This one is for the left handed individuals and anglers that feel more comfortable with their right arm holding the rod. The TackleDirect Platinum Hook TDPS645080WTSIN/Shimano TAC50II Standup Tuna Combo is a great all around option for your heaviest stand up trolling and chunking applications, or can easily double duty as a perfect 50 class blue marlin pitch rod. This combo is ideal when pulling Joe Shute style skirts in front of a select ballyhoo and spreader bars out of your riggers and as a shotgun for canyon yellowfin tuna and bigeye.

The TDPS645080WTSIN Stand Up Tuna Rod features a durable E-glass blank with heavy duty Fuji SIN (Silicon Nitride) guides and a Winthrop roller tip, allowing for trouble free use with your choice of braid, monofilament, or braid backing with a mono topshot./p>

The Shimano TAC50II reel is a popular option for anglers due to its immense power in a compact package. With comparable power to a traditional 80 class reel at nearly half the weight, the Talica 50II is one of the most powerful standup reels on the market. With a max drag at 60lbs, coupled with extremely smooth drag and gears the TAC50II results in an ideal option when targeting large tuna, billfish, wahoo, and dolphin./p>

If your going for a combo go with an Avet 50W/2 combo
October 15, 2018
Avets are fantastic reels, and so is Shimano, but I personally own quite a few of the JX models, LX, and an EXW30/2. They all preform remarkably well, and will last you a lifetime if you put just a little love and care into them. This rod and reel combo will easily crank in a large mako, yellowfin, large groupers, and other fish with no problem, and I get that but the Avet 50W/2 hasjust a little less drag at strike and full and is much better priced. I'm not going to tell anybody on here what to get because it's their choice to buy what they want. Would i recommend this reel? Absolutely, but i would recommend others first.

Could I switch to the Winthrop adjusti-but? If so, how much more?
1 Answer
This would be 250 dollars more for the rod with the adjusti butt, part number TDPS645080WTSIN-Terminator
