BANG FOR THE BUCK!

I got a EXJC66H that I paired with a Penn US113N senator for bottom fishing. I know the intention is a jigging rod, but works well as a strong but lightweight and sensitive bottom rod. So much better than the typical "meatstick" rods I had....setup is light enough for heavy grouper and tuna jigs too. Dont think you can do much better at this price
Pros
  • Sensitivity / strength / weight / COST
Cons
  • none

Good rod for heavy bottom fishing.
October 23, 2021
Though not exactly what I needed for jigging for cod, its a little too short and stiff, it is a great rod for dropping heavy rigs to the bottom. Well built.
Pros
  • Great for bottom fishing with heavy rigs.
Cons
  • A little too short for jigging.

Pairs well with tanacom 500
August 27, 2021
Fished this rod with a tanacom 500 bottom fishing for 24hrs on the Carolina princess. The rod never missed a beat and fished a 1lb weight flawlessly paired well with the tanacom. No real complaints. The rod has solid components and did what I needed it to do.

Great rod for the money
May 24, 2021
I use the rod to tog fish and it does a wonderful job of pulling and keeping the fish from getting into the structure. This rod is built really well and I really appreciate the rubber gimbal and the beefy foam fore grip. The length of the rod is nice and I have no issues clearing the gunwales on my center console and when I put it in the rod holder theres no side to side while I'm underway thanks to the gimbal.
Pros
  • Rubber gimbal, full length foam on the butt, long foam fore grip, hook keeper, large hole diameter on the guides and really nice gold and red thread that the wrapped it with. An outstanding value.

Great rod and Great Price

Most of my rods are either Shimano and a couple of G loomis, but watching a video on youtube I came across this rod. It was paired with a Daiwa BG 6000. From the angler's POV it seems as a balanced outfit. If you are like me, im sure you realized by now that Shimano runs their reels a bit smaller and Daiwa on the other hand, runs them on the larger size.... for instance a 5000 size Daiwa its about a 10000 size in Shimano.

In my opinion this rod has great quality and an awesome price. Yet I will pair it with a 4500 size reel from Daiwa in order to achieve a balanced set that wont get you exhausted in a day of vertical jigging.
Pros
  • Price, quality, value, the looks of the rod are sweet
Cons
  • None

Quality. Overall. Feels very light.

Haven’t had the opportunity to fish with it yet. But as soon as I grabbed it. It felt very light. You can see quality components. Bought everything at tackledirect.com. Excellent price and service. I’ve paired it with a Penn spinfisher V8500. Spooled 600 yards 50lbs power pro braided line. With a wind on leader momio 80lbs monofilament tied a ball bearing swivel at the end. Ready for bottom fishing. And for jigging. Will change the wind on leader to 50 lbs. and fluorocarbon leader of 30 lbs for jigging.
Pros
  • Very light for being extra heavy
  • Quality that you can feel
Cons
  • None yet

My first Star

Honestly I haven't had the chance to fish it yet but it was highly recommended by a friend that has several of them. My wife and I have couple trips planned beginning in May (Grouper) and I bought this for her and paired it with a Penn Battle 3 DX 8000. I'm gonna see if I can get her a first taste of reef donkey. I just hope she doesn't let go of it.
Pros
  • Price, highly recommended by good friends

Right choice - great Jigging rod
June 4, 2018
I was looking for a good set-up to fish Porgies and Sea Bass for our annual six-pack. Did some research on a good rod and reel, I liked this rod with the Okumo azures 65S as a combo. It did not disappoint me. The rod action was good and heavy enough for bigger fish, the reel was super smooth and comfortable, great set-up for the price. This rod and reel is perfect for jigging.

Star rods Rock!
October 18, 2016
I'm 75% complete on rod change out. And Star Rods are my new goto's.. Not one has failed, and I love these jigging rods for everyday use. Flounder, striper, sea bass, weakies, they tackle them all if you know how to load them up. Few canyon runs and the larger ones tackle 50-100# tuna no problem.
Pros
  • great feel, small diameter for # rating.
Cons
  • Single color available.
