Saltwater angling is tough on gear. The sea is tough, the salt is tough, the fish are tough. So is the Delux series of Star Rods. Made with premium E-glass, Star Delux rods will take the pounding the sport hands out. Their shock-absorbing action helps keep the pressure on the fish ? not on you.

Delux series rods are available for casting, live bait, bottom fishing, jigging, trolling and more. Some Delux series rods also feature PowerButt. Each rod has a limited lifetime warranty.

An $8.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

Stiff Broomstick, Good For the Bottom
April 24, 2018
This rod is perfectly ideal for the majority of the bottom fishing we do in the GOM. We use it for grouper, snapper, and any other ancillary fish we catch in the process. Some folks want a lighter rod for the purposes of being more sporty, but I want to pull that grouper out of the rocks (or keep him from going there). For my purposes, you must have a really stiff broom-stick style rod that doesn't play around. Star has been making great rods for a long time, and I feel that for the value, it can't be beat. There are more expensive rods out there, but if you're bottom fishing, I just don't see the reason to spend a ton of money on a fancy rod. I believe these current rods are made in China, but really, so much else is these days. I've used Star Aerial Rods that didn't hold up, but the Delux version is much better for only slightly more. All but 2 of our offshore rigs are on star rods and we couldn't be happier.

I'm a pier & bridge angler & this is just the rod I need. Solidly built with quality components & a beautiful finish. This will last for many seasons. And thank you again to the crew at "TackleDirect" for taking so much care in packaging. Great job!

Well-built and versatile

This rod is designed for boats but since it is 8 feet long it is actually useful at the piers and in the surf as well. In fact I think an 8 foot rod is a bit too long for using on boats and I would personally recommend something 7 feet or shortere. It is fairly stiff and is designed for conventional reels. I have no problems with it. Make sure you clean them after use or the wire guides will begin to corrode and may fray your line. I use this rod on my kayak and have caught sailfish, mahi, tuna, cobia and wahoo on it with no problems.
Pros
  • Good castability
  • Strong
Cons
  • Maybe a bit too long/unwieldy at 8 feet long, but that's personal preference.
