Highly underrated rod, but it has a good blend of sensitivity, stiffness, and lifting power.

Another awesome star rod
February 25, 2020
This is my second star plasma. The first was the 8-17 this one is the 12-25. Wanted a bit stiffer rod to use as a pitch rod offshore. This paired with a Stradic 5000 is a winner! Don’t sleep on Star, you get a quality blank with great components for a fair price.

Best Inshore Rod I've Used (Heavy Model)
October 29, 2019
The feel and action of it made me fall in love with this rod. Purchased to be my go to lunker lake trout rod, but broke before I got my chance. I'll find out how good their customer service is soon enough.
But, already managed great use out of it in the month or so of ownership. Last week, I landed 2 striped marlin (85# and 120# class), a handful of Dorado and handful of Roosters on it before I ended up snapping the stick on a huge blue- footed booby. Dumb bird had me high stick my rod trying to free it.
Rod was paired with a Stradic 5000 with 30# spectra. Plan to use for winter lake trout and tuna once I get it replaced.
Pros
  • Lightweight and strong

Super light

Love this rod, it's super light and sensitive, with a good backbone. I prefer the Plasma over the Seagis because the rod handle is a little shorter.
Pros
  • Strong
  • Sensitive
  • Light
  • Butt not too long

Rod is light and fishes great. Sensitive and trying without being to heavy. Great buy! I own many star rods and have not been disappointed! Highly recommended rod.

Good inshore rod
October 8, 2019
I paired it with a Penn Slammer 3500, and they are a good balance. The rod is more sensitive then I expected, and feels much like the lighter star rod I use for inshore.

All around great rod
October 8, 2019
Lightweight for the strength it has, you can easily maneuver fish through pilings or out from under docks and still cast light a much lighter rod. Split grip looks awesome. Already caught multiple slot snook with this and my 3k sustain with no complaints

Bad to the Bone Rod
August 31, 2019
My 7 ft heavy rod just came in. It is a beautiful rod. I have it paired with the Shimano Stratic FL 5000.
Time to slay the fish off the rocks in the Caribbean!
Thanks for the packaging and the quick delivery of the rod. It was delivered not damaged.
Thank you!
Pros
  • Light, with a beautiful color. Professional rod. Well made.

Fantastic rod
May 24, 2019
I’ve been a star rod user for many years. This is my first inshore spinning rod from star and it blows away my st. Croixs. The plasma 8-17 med 7’ balances out perfectly with a stradic 3000 and is super light weight. The tip is on the softer side which really slings light artificials but has a solid back bone for great hook sets and controlling the fish. Now I’m in the process of selling off my other inshore setups to replace them with more stars. As always tackle direct shipped it out very fast and in a very study tube to keep it protected during shipping.
Pros
  • Light weight
  • Strong
  • Soft tip but solid back bone
Cons
  • A little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Good Permit rod
July 10, 2017
Used this rod with a penn reel and 20# braid for Permit, snapper, cudas, and s police dolphin this year. Real sensitive and light and pretty versatile down here in the keys. First split grip rod for me and I'm diggin it. Worth the 200 bucks. I've had Loomis and a few other pricier rods that didn't work nearly as well for me. But that's me.
