High density graphite with a thick-walled, thin-diameter blank gives an even bend throughout the rod curve. This gives steady and even pressure against the fish. Like a modern hunting bow flexes as you pull back, power is generated evenly giving unrelenting lifting power. Fuji silicon nitride or alconite concept guides and Fuji or Stuart reel seats convey this awesome power from the reel. These rods are a perfect match for the powerful drags on the light weight powerful conventional and spinning reels now on the market. Unrelenting rods for unrelenting reels whether flat lining for yellowtail snapper, trolling for yellow fin tuna or casting to huge tarpon there is a Paraflex rod for you.

Exactly what I wanted

I’ve been looking at these rods for awhile and finally pulled the trigger. I paired the XXH version with my Avet HXW Raptors. The combo is lite weight yet powerful. For an off the shelf rod these things are fantastic. Can’t wait to get them wet.
Pros
  • Lite weight
  • Excellent components
  • Fit and finish
Cons
  • Roller Tip (personally not a fan of rollers)

Paired this rod with an AVET raptor with 80lbs braid. Had my first ‘proper’ fish with it at the weekend, a 200lbs + Porbeagle shark and it handled 26lbs of drag no problem. Quality finish and plenty of power. Lots of bang for your buck at the price.

Best rod on the market

I am a charter captain in south Louisiana and I won't use any other rod than the Star Paralfex! Great flexibility and is able to hold out against plus size yellowfin tuna. I have had these for two years and do not have one single complaint.

Good rod

Good job to Star rods on this one. The blank is very strong and overall light weight. I paired the rod with a Truth SG and have been happy with the performance so fare. The craftmenship is well done and the choice and placement of the guides match the SG perfectly. I'm glad to see they used tangle-free guides for the entire rod unlike the spinning model.

Good rod

I have the MH paired with a truth sg spooled with 40lb braid.
The biggest fish I've caught is 15lb, which the rod handled with ease.
I'm sure this rod could handle 50lb + fish it didn't snap when trying to lift my two dogs in there crate!
Pros
  • Light weight
  • Good components
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • None

Light and strong
May 25, 2013
I matched these with 30 Santiago reels for a lightweight combo. I was a little nervous that the rod was too light for these reels,, but the blank is Strong and it turned out to be an awesome combo.
Pros
  • Weight to strength ratio
  • Feel
Cons
  • Powerbutt - hopefully ok, but obviously not as strong as a metal butt.

Hi there. Im Lennon from Florida.  Can you tell me is this rod work with spinning reel? Because i have daiwa saltiga 8000, and shimano twinpower 10000. Which one pair with that rod help. Thanks
1 Answer
Hi Lennon, The Star Paraflex Stand-Up Boat Rods are conventional rods. Instead I would recommend a Star SGB66XXH Paraflex Spinning Boat Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/star-sgb66xxh-paraflex-spinning-boat-rod.html This would pair well with you Saltiga 8000 or Shimano Twinpower 10000 for offshore fishing applications. Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Would the MH be overkill for a truth sg with 40 lb braid? I'm looking for a good versatile rod to pair with this reel. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
1 Answer
I do not think that it would be overkill, but it would also depend entirely on what you are fishing for. If you are looking for just a general do it all combo, I would say that rod and reel would be a good choice.

Difference between stand up rod & boat rod
1 Answer
The main difference is the standup boat rods have slick butt's for going in and out of the rod holder and the regular conventional boat rods come with foam butts.
