Good surf rod for the price
January 11, 2022
Nice action, great quality. Well made rod.
Has a decent number of guides for the price paid. I have seen rods for the same price with less guides.
I use it with a Daiwa Tournament SS 2600 reel.
This combo gives me great distance and lifting power fishing from a high pier.

10ft Star Aerial 2pc
July 9, 2021
I run a couple 7ft Star Aerial's as my kayak rods, so when it came to getting a surf rod Star was at the top of my list. I was a little leery on the grip as it looked to be smaller in diameter than my other rods. Absolutely Love it! The grip is awesome. Currently paired with a Penn Battle III 8000.

Great rod
July 8, 2016
I've owned one of these rods for at least the past 6 season. I've caught hundreds if not thousands of fish on it to 30+#s. Stars customer service is excellent and they stand by their warranty and their product which is important to me. I have thrown plugs close to 4 oz with it and had no problems
Pros
  • Great price
  • Warranty and customer service excellent
Cons
  • None

Star Ariel rod
June 26, 2015
Got this rod with as a gift for father's day from my wife and kids along with a previously review Penn battle 2 5000 reel. The rod is very well made. I chose this rod based on my experience with my star Ariel 11 foot surf rod. This rod loads smoothly and casts very well. Have not thrown anything heavy than 2 ounces with it so far but I feel that it can handle it's rated range. Only gave it a 4 star rating due to the fact I haven't thrown heavier lures with it and only caught a 20 striped Bass with it.
Pros
  • Lite and well balanced
Cons
  • None so far.

Great entry level rod!

Very good rod if you are just starting out, or need a backup. I got one for myself, and one for my nephew, both paired with Penn Battle reels and the are great, only complaint is they are heavier than you would expect for nine foot sticks.

Can you suggest a reel for the 11'
1 Answer
I would suggest either the Penn BTLIII8000HS Battle III Spinning Reel or the Daiwa SALTIST8000 Saltist Spinning Reel both are great reels for the surf and match the rod well.

Are these rods made in USA?
1 Answer
All of the Aerial series rods are made in China. Star ships many of the components for the Aerial rods to China for manufacturing. This consists of blanks, Aftco parts, thread and a few other items. The Aerial line of rods is the only model by Star that are made in China. It is a mid-price rod of nice quality. Every other rod by Star is produced and manufactured in Miami, FL and/or Morehead City, NC.

Bobby, This could handle smaller sharks, and would be a good rod for Tarpon, i would not recommend using this to target large sharks from land.
