Med fast paired with a shimano Stella 3000. Caught a 36in and a 38in striped bass on the set up. No problem at all. Loved it. If your looking for a light durable set up this is it. Plus it can handle more then that.

Great sensitive rod with plenty of backbone.
Comes with a protective rod sock.
The handle takes a little getting use to. Great hook keeper that doesn’t dig into your hand.
I have this paired up with a Sustain 4000 the model with the kickstand and it pairs well with it.
If price is a issue I would consider the new Avid (teal) instead which is also a great rod that has the same hook keeper now. The previous gen Avid (brown) hook keeper would die into your fingers where it was placed and designed.
Pros
  • Sensitivity
  • Weight
Cons
  • Price
  • Handle design

The rods stained on the handles with the first use. St Croix states that is not a manufacturing defect and want to charge me$80 per rod to replace. They are right it is a design defect! $400 rod -pretty pathetic

Amazing rod
August 30, 2016
I have had this rod for two yrs now and have caught many fish. My biggest is a 7 lb catfish. It's precise, very sensitive and casts amazing. It's so sensitive that I can feel the objects while the sinker is moving on the bottom and can normally tell if it's a hard or soft bottom etc given the right circumstances (wind, current etc). Solid and have shown no wear what so ever and looks new apart from some dirt that I need to clean :) The handle is amazing to and the material is great to the touch and easy to clean. I have the medium spinning with 30 lb braid but looking to change to 15 lb instead. Using with a shimano sustain 3000. Amazing combo, very light and very balanced! Can fish all day. I use it with many rigs, paternoster rig, carolina rigs, drop shots, all kinds stuff. I've even casted a paternoster rig with a 3 oz sinker and no problems!
Pros
  • St. Croix
  • Solid and will last a very long time
  • Precise casting
  • Extremely sensitive
  • Easy to clean
  • Light
  • Balanced
  • Amazing guides
Cons
  • None

Best Inshore Rod!!!!!!
October 19, 2015
Have 2 of these so far paired them with the new Stradic 3000FK's with 15 pound power pro braid throwing the hybrid Live target Shrimp 3/8oz lure for Snook,Reds, & Trout. Cast the shrimp a mile and couldn't ask for much more out of this rod. I have yet to have a problem with the white turning yellow and I fish just about everyday. My only complaint is I wish they would make a 7'6" or even an 8'. I plan on adding a MLF and MHF to the arsenal of legend xtremes I have.
Pros
  • Casts a mile, lightweight
Cons
  • No 7'6" or 8' Lengths

Combined with a Quantum Smoke inshore this is my go to combo for casting inshore artificial baits for drum and speckled trout. The grip is comfortable for all day sight casting and has plenty of power to get the lure out to the grass line.

I have been an ugly stik man since childhood. I finally decided to see what all the hype was about with premium rods. The first time I held it, I knew I was in a different ballgame. In terms of sensitivity and weight, I had never felt anything like it before. I am a believer! Great product! I will buy another.
Pros
  • Lightweight, sensitive, great backbone, pretty stylish
Cons
  • Price, but you get what you pay for for sure!

Hello,

I am planning on using this rod to bottom fish black sea bass, fluke, and tautog in Massachusetts. Will this do the trick or should I be looking at the St. Croix Mojo Jig instead? I'm pairing with a Stradic.

1 Answer
The mojo jig is going to be a better choice and will be more versatile as far as heavier jigs you can use for deeper, faster running water.

Ordered one of these Yesterday. Now looking at a new reel for it. Interested in LTJ for striper on the Chesapeake Bay. Also maybe some bottom fishing for spot & Croaker. Am looking at the Stradic CI4+ 3000 and the Sustain FG 3000. Choosing between those two reels, are there any noticeable differences I could expect to see between the two while using them with this pole?
1 Answer
The only difference you might notice is the stradic will feel lighter on the rod.

hello i looking to buy one of the st croix inshore spinning rod. i am going to fish of the pier in florida mostly just for blue fish, Spanish mackerel, and kings mackerel. i will be using gotcha lure about 7/8 to 1 oz. should i go with 8-17 or 10-20 wt? am also looking to get a stella SWB Saltwater Spinning Reels STL5000SWBXG SHM-2542 to go with this rod. it this a good combo for fishing on the pier and inshore? or should i go with a diffrent stella modle? thanks
1 Answer
Hello Sky. This would be an excellent combination for you. I would recommend the 10-20 weight rod. The 5000 Stella will be just the right size as well.
