Broke at the female ferrule on the first salmon I hooked in little current and it wasn't a large fish. Very disappointed." Thankfully I had my Berkley Reflex that I used on 14 prior salmon trips without any problems and at a quarter of the price.

Very fine rod, a bargain at twice the price!

I bought this rod as a gift for my brother and have had time to examine and fish with it on trips. The big surprise at first glance is how finely finished it is - it looks and feels like a premium rod that would sell for >$400! In the hand it has a fast sensitive fine tip tapering to a sturdy butt section, again fishes like a premium quality graphite rod capable of lifting heavy fish and making strong hook sets, while being feather lite and well balanced with a medium-sized spinning reel. This rod would easily handle big steelhead, brown trout, silver/coho salmon and even king/chinook salmon. We're using it as a long rod for river fishing for muskie, walleye and channel cats. If you are into any kind of freshwater fishing where a long medium-heavy spinning rod is required, I would highly recommend it for its versatility. If you are used to a 7' rod and go to 8' 6" with this rod, you'll never go back. It is fun to catch both small fish with and also hawgs. This is not just a Great Lakes/Pacific river steelhead/salmon tool. A great all round rod.
Pros
  • Premium quality rod at an economical price, superb finish, powerful action for big fish but with a sensitive tip for light bites.
Cons
  • None.
