Not what I expected.
December 10, 2014
I ordered this rod from a sporting goods "box store" to use a gift card I had. It was a sight unseen purchase that was a mistake (for my uses). This rod has a very small diameter foam handle, and extremely soft action. Much softer than I wanted or expected.
I have used rods from other makers with similar specs and was surprised this rod was so much different than them physically. The blank fit and finish is a thing of beauty, like all St Croix rods. Unlike other St Croix rods the handle was a disappointment.
I think my complaints are probably the exception, not the rule. This model might be perfect for you, but you should see one in person before you buy!
I did not keep the rod.

Pros
  • Blank fit and finish is superb!
Cons
  • Small diameter handle did not fit my grip well.
  • Rod action is much softer than expected.

My Go To Trout Trolling Rod.
July 29, 2014
I have 2 of the St Croix Wild River series Rods and use them for my primary trolling rods for either Brown or Rainbow Trout,
I find the action and build quality second to none these really are my tippet top Trout Rods.
Worth every penny, I can't imagine going lure trolling without them, in fact if I forgot to bring them I would probably drive 2 hours back home to get them.
Pros
  • You feel every tail kick and the smallest of bumps.
Cons
  • You prob wont like using any other Trout Rods anymore.
