heavy fishing rod
November 24, 2020
A universal rod was needed.
Chose this product. Unfortunately, not all expectations were met.
The rod is more consistent with the medium-heavy class.
But the action is unambiguously fast (only the last fourth part works).
Otherwise, this is a fairly high-quality fishing rod from St. Croix.

Great Travel Rod!
November 18, 2020
Bought the Med 9' travel rod as I live in the city so having a 9 or 10' rod in the apartment would be bad for the marriage. Super light, comes with a nice case. Been using it on the surf at local beaches and she casts great. So easy to break down and pack away. Def recommend if you need a very solid surf rod while traveling.

Great rod for carry on travel
January 13, 2020
Bought this for a trip to North Carolina this winter. Great rod with nice travel case. There was even enough room to also fit my 7’ travel rod in the case as well, making it very convenient to travel with my rods.

Great rods

Just back from Zihuatanejo inshore fishing. Used 10 foot travel surf. Traveled in overhead compartments no problem either direction. Casts great 2-3 ounce metal and GT Icream lures. Great for Jacks, tuna and dorado.
Captain mate wants me to bring one for them next time I come. Best rod he had cast. Works great from the beach. All in all 5 stars. You can cover a lot or water with the rod. Matched with shimano Saragossa 6000.

Excellent travel surf rod

Very well made. Excellent case. Compact. True to the weight range of baits it is rated for, with a sweet spot at about 2 ounces. This is exactly what I was hoping for.

Great Gear
October 26, 2017
I took one of St. Croix's 6'6" - 4 piece travel rods to Belize last year. Landed dozens and dozens of fish - of 11 speices - just casting lures from shore - including tarpon and snook. I was very very satisfied with the product. No other rod company makes anything comparable - let alone at this great price. NO EXCUSES for anyone not to have your gear with you anywhere in the world. Just purchased the 9 foot version to fish the heavy surf on the Pacific side of Central America this winter.

This is a very convenient way to carry a surf pole in your car or truck without taking any room. Quality and performance are standard with StCroix and it shows. Highly recommend this portable surf rod.

Perfect travel surf rod
June 1, 2016
Haven't stop using this rod, took it on a trip to the Florida keys to do some shore based fishing. Hooked a few tarpon and the rod performed well! Enough backbone to fight the fish and a nice tip to finesse smaller presentations. I'm so pleased with this setup I'm currently fishing for striped bass back in New England with it.
Pros
  • Well built
Cons
  • Can be difficult to take apart even after using ferrule wax

Very Capable Travel Rod
March 30, 2016
This travel rod gives some surf fisherman the convenience and opportunities they need to go at a moment's notice. Rather than leaving long 5-6ft 2 piece rods in your trunk or in the backseat in plain view of passer-by's, you have a very durable and sturdy rod tube and a 4-piece rod from a very reputable manufacturer. It is part of the Triumph line and is a great rod for the money and convenience. I leave it in my car always with a few lures and a reel and I'm ready to go anytime I want. Lunch time during work or quick after work casting or even before work. Just leave it in the car and go, no need to worry about the rod rolling around because it is inside the case. This rod goes with me from Plum Island to the Canal and serves as my backup rod as well.
Pros
  • It's a St. Croix Rod!
  • Sturdy Travel Case
  • Convenience and peace of mind
Cons
  • It's not a 4-piece Legend Surf.

I recently purchased this rod for use in Indonesia. I am thinking of getting a Shimano SRG6000W Saragosa reel. What would be the max strength line for this set up?
1 Answer
A 20 pound test line should be fine without sacrificing line capacity.

What are some reel options (good quality-max of $250) for this rod? Present for my 16 year old to surf  fish in St Lucia. Also, line size and lures? Thank you
1 Answer
A Shimano Saragosa 6000 would be a perfect match on that rod:

A Penn Spinfisher VI 5500 would also pair well, just slightly heavier:
