Works as expected. More backbone than the freshwater version, which is nice for trolling pike. St Croix quality. Reel seat not Fuji, but seems to be of good quality.

Have multiple St Croix rods that I take out on my kayak but this one has quickly become my go to rod for most everything. Casts great and has backbone to land large reds and even 3’ sharks!

Best Budget Rod in the market
August 12, 2021
I purchased the 7'6 Medium on 11/26/2020 and its now almost 9 months and I've had zero issues with it. It has handled fish of all sizes and the sensitivity is amazing. Great for both live bait and lures.

This is a new model for St. Croix, but having owned many, I thought I'd set my wife up with a new rig. Very impressed with quality of this rod for the price point. Great fit and finish with nice cork, real seat and quality guides. Really like the longer handle on it. Lots of back bone, but seems to be more sensitive than my older Premiers. Paired with a Spheros 4000. We look forward to catching more New England stripers on it!
Pros
  • Quality Product

7'6" MHF with Van Staal VSX150

This thing feels beefy. The big one has a nice reel seat that easily holds reels bigger than 3000's. Feels nice with the 150 (@12oz+ with full spool). It's a nice rod, to step into St. Croix. It's nicer than any combo rod you're going to buy, and if it ever breaks, you can always take advantage of St. Croix's gold star upgrade to get into a little nicer rod for not much money. So fish the heck out of it.

If you're new to Florida inshore/landbased saltwater fishing (and want to start with 1 rod), do yourself a favor and start with a 7' medium rod. It'll fit in your car (hopefully) and can throw soft plastics, live bait and even some smaller/lighter plugs.

If you can do 2 rods a medium light and a medium heavy rod will allow you to go after a wider variety of species in more situations (think flats, boat, land, jetty/pier).

These rods seem to have a pretty fast action (a lot of the St. Croix line up is known for that).
Pros
  • Great intro price point for great rod.
  • 5 year warranty.
  • Nice components.
  • Made in North America.
Cons
  • SCII Carbon (same as the Tidemaster and retired Mojo Inshore) is great material, for a few bucks more you could get into a rod with better components and SCIII with the new Mojo's and Avid Inshore).
  • I feel like this series is replacing the newly "retired" Tidemaster (which were AMAZING rods). They're a little cheaper than the Tidemaster, which was made in USA.
  • It's not meant to be the "best" rod in the world, but it's a blue-collar workhorse of a rod. It will do what you need it to and if there are fish in the area, you'll catch em. It's a tool. Tight lines friends!

What rod would pair well with a 3000. Tossing artificials for bass

Worms,flukes and Ned rigs

Hi Vince, Based on the fishing applications you described I would recommend the St. Croix TSR70MF Triumph Spinning Rod. Model: TSR70MF; TD Code: SCR-2046. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-tsr70mf-triumph-spinning-rod.html. This rod is light and sensitive enough for the correct presentations you need but also strong enough for big Largemouth. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
