The St. Croix Traveler Rod Case is a rod tube case designed to hold your St. Croix rod when traveling. It's made with 1000 denier nylon covered P.V.C. with foam padded ends for protection of the rod tips. It features a reinforced handle as well with divided nylon liner for even more protection.

Looks slim but has generous space inside
August 28, 2022
When I received it, I thought it will be too slim for my OKUMA travel XH swimbait rod. It looks so slim. However, I fit the 4 piece of the thick rod snuggly in the case. The soft nylon divider in the case definitely helps protect the rod pieces and the rings.

Sexy look, excellent design!

Looks good but my Saint Croix 7 ft spinning walleye rod will not fit.
June 28, 2022
Nice rod case but the "tubular liner" for holding the individual rod sections do not accommodate the large butt end spinning rod ferrules. Will have to "modify" the narrow liner tube so the large rod ferrule will slide in.
Pros
  • Case liners should be made to fit all Saint Croix rods of the proper length.

Pleasantly surprised!
April 11, 2022
I needed a case for my 2 piece 11'3" center pin rod. So I ordered the RC74 74" model. Pleasantly surprised when it arrived, as it was oval instead of round. Absolutely love this design as it won't roll around! I think the shape will help prevent case warping which has happened on the another long case I have. Rod fit great as well. Couldn't find shape info on the web site so I loaded some pictures for reference
Pros
  • Well built case
  • Shape of case is an added bonus
Cons
  • None

Very nice, but…
August 12, 2021
I bought this to protect my brand new https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-trss106uls2-triumph-salmon-steelhead-spinning-rod.html
And it fits it perfectly. Cushioning inside will definitely protect the rod. The oval shape on the outside won’t roll and is nice and compact.
The downside is the small handle that’s ok for carrying but I wish it had a way to attach a shoulder strap.
Pros
  • Excellent protection and compact design
Cons
  • No shoulder strap or way to connect one

Not wide enough
July 8, 2021
This rod case is *extremely thin*. While well built and sturdy, you're just not going to find many 9-10ft 2pc rods that have small enough guides to fit in this case. It's best suited for if you have a 5'6" one piece trout rod you want to protect, or if you have one of the very very few surf rods that have small enough guides to fit.

One rod that this does fit is my 9' Shimano Tiralejo surf rod. But it *barely* fits.

Most travelers want a case that can hold multiple rods. This case is just not it. It can protect one expensive skinny rod, and my Tiralejo workhorse isn't one of my rods that need this level of protection.

I have yet to find a better case than the one that came with my Phenix Rods Black Diamond SX 10' surf rod. It can fit 3 rods easily and protected them well on many flights. I was hoping to find a similar case but no retailer wants to sell me one, so I might just have to buy another Phenix rod just to get the case!
Pros
  • Study, well constructed. Good price.
Cons
  • Too thin and small to be practical.

10’ Triumph four piece surf rod. Each section 30†long. Which case ?

I'm looking for a rod tube that will carry 2 four piece rods for serious backpacking that is very lightweight.

Will  this support 2 four piece 9' rods and what is the weight?

Thanks

1 Answer
The st.croix rod tubes on the inside have individual sewn pouches to fit a specific section of the rod. Two rods that break down into four pieces won't fit in one tube. You may need to go to a plano tube or even a Flambeau bazooka tube.

Hi Ryan, The The St. Croix Traveler rod case Model: RC80 has a internal diameter of about 3 inches. A 13ft rod would have to have very small guides and be a 50/50 rod split in order to be able to fit into the case. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Is the RC42 made to fit the St. Croix PS66MF2? The handle half of the rod has a very large guide that prevents it from fitting in the case with the built in separator. Length wise it would be fine, but it seems like a stretch to fit this rod.

Hi Erick, A 12ft Rod could fit the St. Croix Traveler Rod Case - 74in if your rod has very small guides since the case is oblong shape, and possibly if the rod breaks down into even 6ft pieces. I recommend measuring the rod then contacting St. Croix Rods for further assistance. https://stcroixrods.com/pages/contact Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Looking at this case for possibly carrying on an airplane for 2 piece 7' or 7'6" rods.  The 48" case is obviously the answer but will it fit in the overhead bin on most planes?

1 Answer
Steve,

You are correct, the St.Croix Rod Case RC48 would be the case for both 7' and 7'6" rods.  As far as fitting in an airplane overhead bin, the average is 24"x16"x9".  You would have to contact the airline you are flying with to find out what your plane can handle.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

I have a St Croix, Ben Doerr 10' two piece surf rod, #SS100M2. The lower guide and rod measure 3 1/2'' across. Are these all 3 inches internally and will the RC63 be too small in diameter?

Is there a St Croix tube that will work?

1 Answer
Kerry,

I have a Ben Doerr as well, unfortunately the RC63 and all the other Traveler Rod cases are designed around their newer / smaller guide models that don't have that bigger lower guide like the Ben Doerr or Triumph surf.  So those cases will not work for you.  They do not currently sell a case that will fit that rod.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
