Awesome travel rod
April 17, 2022
Pickup this travel rod a year ago and caught fish on every trip between Hawaii, Cancun to Cura?ao. I use it from shore only and absolutely loved. I have been traveling with the St Croix Triumph 4 piece travel rod for years and the tidemaster is a step up. It is light, little stiffer then the Triumph with good backbone yet sensitive. I paired it with a Shimano Stradic 4000FL and it casts very well. It comes with a very nice hard case vs. the Triumph’s soft case. However you won’t be able to fit it into your carryon luggage like the Triumph. I never had any issues carrying with me onto the plane. Highly recommended! 👍🎣
Pros
  • Light, strong backbone, sensitive and cases well. Great protective case.
Cons
  • Will not fit in a carryon luggage.

Great inshore travel rod
March 24, 2020
I've had this rod for 4 years and it's all around great. I've never had a problem with this rod and the TSA and I carry it on when I travel to Costa Rica. This is a great inshore reel for backbay stripers and bluefish in New Jersey, Redfish and seatrout in Charleston (anywhere down south) and for snappers, jacks and small roosterfish.
Pros
  • Great portability
  • Great backbone
  • Solid rod

These rods are perfect for going after mutton snapper when running from one flat to another. I mean, even fly fishermen gotta eat.

Excellent Travel Rod and Case
April 19, 2019
This travel rod is great. It comes in three pieces and breaks down very easily into a super sturdy, hard, protective, case. I am very impressed by the quality of the case as most brands do not focus as much attention to this.

The rod itself is a little stiffer than I expected; but, I had no problems slinging my baits out on the water. I fished this rod all day and it was a pleasure to use. I do wish there were guide marks to aid with alignment when assembling the rod. I used a gold metallic marking pen to create my own so it's quicker to put together next time.
Pros
  • Protective travel case is phenomenal
Cons
  • Wish there were alignment guides to line up pieces easier.

Great Travel Option
January 20, 2019
I am a fly fisherman first and foremost. However, sometimes the weather does not cooperate and I have to use spin gear. This travel rod was purchased for those situations and it has lived up to its reputation. It warrants mentioning that this rod was highly recommended by two guides who guide on Long Island and Andros Island, Bahamas.
Pros
  • Packs small. Great action. Durable.
Cons
  • None

St Croix travel rod

If you travel the St Croix inshore travel spinning rod is a must. Resent Florida inshore trip proved to be an advantage. Took 3 rods and only 1 was a travel rod. May have to change my approach when traveling.

Took to Abaco, Bahamas and stayed @ Casaurina Point to try Bone Fishing, rod performed fabulously. Couldn't tell that it was 3 pieces, caught nice sized (4 - 6 lbs) Bone fish on the flats @ low tide and went up into the canal and caught 8lbs Snapper under the Mangroves and other Tropical fish (looked to cool to eat). Case a bit large to fit in luggage but who cares, paired it with a Shimmano 4000 Sedona / it was the real-deal Abaco Bone fishing.
Pros
  • Solid feel when assembled and you have a fishing rod on Travel
Cons
  • Can't fit into carry-on luggage and becomes your personal carry-on item (and wouldn't fit in snorkel & fins bag).

Pros
  • A tough but also light rod , plenty of backbone.
Cons
  • You need a large piece of luggage to pack this rod .

Looking into pairing this up with a nice reel, what size reel would be recommended? 3000, 4000, 5000?

A 4000 or 5000 size spinning reel would pair best with this rod.

Reel size mostly depends on what you are fishing for and how you are fishing. Typically you would pair a 4000 size reel with a 7' 6.
