Crack at the joint of the top half of the rod
June 28, 2022
Really enjoyed this rod for how light it was, unfortunately after getting done a session I noticed a Crack that goes through the poles joint on the top half of the rod. Never took it to a jetty, dropped or abused it. And it was only out for 6 sessions maybe... maybe I got a lemon but I won't be risking getting the 10'6 ML again

Seage 10’6” medium light
May 30, 2022
Bought the rod direct from st croix…10’6” 1/2oz -2oz rating…great quality…cast light spoons and lures as well as cut bait using 2oz lead..great action and easy on the back and light..paired with Penn slammer 4500 which makes a great combo..have a 4000 Stradic that would make it lighter yet that I want to try.
I also have several Avid and Mojo surf rods..as well as fresh water rods..very happy with the St Croix rods..
Surf fish the North Carolina beaches
Pros
  • Great quality, good distance with a light lire
Cons
  • Availability was an issue..bought direct and waited 2 months before it shipped and required several calls to st croix customer service

With the help of a salesperson, I chose this rod to take to Belize. It was perfect for plane travel and handled a dozen big barracudas and various other fish with no difficulty. It’s strong and light.

A+
February 26, 2022
Got the 9’ med-mod. Exactly what I needed. Loads great with 1 & 2oz lures, 75 and 100+ yards with each lure size, respectively.

Only personal complaint is the foregrip: sure it’s very comfy, but it’s kinda ‘sponge-y’. I’d rather have a full-contact/firm grip like a shrink tube. Very minor thing to worry about though.
Pros
  • Warranty
  • Lightweight
  • Aesthetics
  • Versatile range and action
  • Long casts comparable to my 10’6” despite only being 9’
Cons
  • Very soft foregrip…maybe a little too soft.

Great Rod for the money!
December 27, 2021
I own a few surf rods ranging from Tsunami, Dark Matter, G loomis, etc. This St Croix Seage is probably my favorite so far. I love the Medium Light action. I can cast Jigs to lures to cover Fluke to Stripers for all season action. This a great rod!

Loving this rod!
December 5, 2021
I am loving this rod! It casts super easily for such a large rod. It casts noticeably farther than my other surf rods, even when using lighter baits. This rod is considerably more expensive than my other surf rods, but I can see why! You get what you pay for with St. Croix. It's super lightweight but has backbone. I was working spooks and jerkbaits in the New Jersey surf all weekend with almost no fatigue. I highly recommend this rod!

Pros
  • Lightweight
  • Casting Distance

Looking at the 10-6 med light. SES106MLMF2. Going to be used primarily on the beach throwing Bombers, SPs and some Resin jigs. What reel would you recommend to balance the set up? In varying. Price points.

Thanks

Bill

1 Answer
Hi Bill, based on your fishing application that you described, I would recommend one of 3 reels. 1) The Penn Battle III Spinning Reel. Specifically Model: BTLIII5000; TackleDirect Code: PEN-1859. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-btliii5000-battle-iii-spinning-reel.html. 2) The Penn Spinfisher VI. Specifically Model: SSVI5500; TackleDirect Code: PEN-1677. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-spinfisher-vi-ssvi5500-spinning-reel.html. 3) The Van Staal VS200XP VS X-Series Spinning Reel. Model: VS200XP Polished Black VS200BXP; TackleDirect Code: VAN-0106-1. https://www.tackledirect.com/van-staal-vs200xp-vs-x-spinning-reel-van-0106-1.html. The Penn Battle III is very affordable reel for someone on a budget. The Penn Spinfisher VI 4500 is a semi sealed reeled that offers a layer of protection against salt water intrusion and is a stronger, lighter weight option. The Van Staal VSX is a fully sealed reel that has superior components that will withstand anything you use it for. All 3 options would match up fine with your St. Croix SES106MLMF2 Seage surf rod. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Or St. Croix Seage Surf Spinning Rod Model: SES106MHMF2; TackleDirect Code: SCR-2188. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-ses106mhmf2-seage-surf-spinning-rod.html. Looking at the 9' Med Moderate and 10'6 Med Moderate rods to pair with a VSB 100 reel. Will primarily be fishing both open beach and wading Raritan Bay. Would either of these two models balance significantly better than the other with this reel?
1 Answer
Hi Evan, based on your question for your fishing application I would recommend model: SES90MM2; TackleDirect Code: SCR-2185. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-ses90mm2-seage-surf-spinning-rod.html. November 7, 2021
Which of the 9 ft versions will provide the best casting distance?
1 Answer
Hi Tom, For the St. Croix Seage Surf Spinning rod 9ft models. Each 9ft model will be best at casting different lures. Model: SES90MLMF2 will be great for casting small minnow plugs and smaller profile baits. Model: SES90MM2 will be great at throwing pencil popper lures and a wide variety of plugs. Model: SES90MMF2 will excel at throwing different kinds of metal lures into the wind with the backbone of this rod. A great all around rod choice would be model: SES90MM2; TackleDirect Code: SCR-2185. https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-ses90mm2-seage-surf-spinning-rod.html. This rod will be very versatile for throwing small and large lures and be able to have enough backbone for throwing metals in to the wind.
