Scientists. Those guys want to take credit for everything. Well, while they're sitting around patting themselves on the back about ibuprofen, we'll keep making the world a better place by developing new rods. Like the Mojo Surf rods. Built from premium SC2 graphite, these bad boys are topped off with specialized, weight-saving surf guides with zirconium ring that sends casts off into the stratosphere. High-performance surf rods at a great value for folks who put it all on the line.

Great rod!
November 29, 2020
Love this rod. Use it for surf and pier fishing. Beautiful design. Good casting distance. Bought the 12' casting version. My only complaint is the uneven rod sections. The butt length is 5', and the tip section is 7'.
Pros
  • Good action. Beautiful design.
Cons
  • Uneven rod section lengths.

I’ve had the 10ft casting rod for a week and I already love this rod. I have it paired with a daiwa lexa 400hd spooled with 40lb braid. The Xgrip is very comfortable and the 70/30 split gives it the feel of a one piece rod. I plan on getting the spinning version soon.
Pros
  • 70/30 split
  • Light weight
  • Well made

Light, light surf rod
June 25, 2019
I purchased a 11" Mojo surf casting rod to throw chunks of bait into the ocean. This rod is so light compare to all my other surf rods. It does throw smaller bait out futher - 30-50 feet, but does not do as well if you use a big piece of bait, eg., a hunk of bunker. You still need some skill. I caugh a big cownose or eagle ray on it and it stood up to the strain well. Still - I'm not sure if its really worth that much money especially if you have to pay for extra packaging too (I had a Gift Certificate).
Pros
  • Very light weight rod. Throws bait a little further - but you still have to have the skill.
Cons
  • Expensive. May have to pay for extra packaging.

Let down
September 29, 2018
I turned a 2 piece rod into a 4 piece by casting 3.5oz on a rod rated 2-6oz. I will be missing the fall migration.

Oh yeah, I just wrote another review on the Triumph that broke in half while casting. I am seeing a trend here. Terrible product, even worse customer service. Thanks guys.

Excellent Finish
December 21, 2017
This rod is the best. It separates down by the handle to rod junction so it is essentially a one piece rod but is easily transported. Very nice finish and seems very sturdy. I have not had the pleasure of fishing with it at this time but am very much looking forward to it.
Pros
  • 2 Piece construction

The mullet head Heaver
August 31, 2016
I desired this rod as a heaver for spider sinkers and baitfish heaved out into the Texas gulf coast, and am very well pleased running it with an Avet MX reel and 20# Prospec Mono. It exceeded my expectations on quality, and its performance so far has been ahead of my abilities to deploy it. It is also been a good surface iron to pitch trolley line out for slider line kingfishing off piers. Its a long heavy thing i discovered so I ended up getting a 10 foot surf rod and smaller Avet SX reel so i can prowl around the surf and Jettys while this setup soaks bait.
Pros
  • Well made, priced well, casts well - better than I can so far. As usual, Tackle Direct fast reliable tracked and shipped, FAST, no BS service.
Cons
  • Its a beast to transport even broken down since its about 7'9" on the long section. So far strapping it to rooftop racks or danglin' it off a pickup tailgate in a lumber store PVC sched. 40 "rod barn" is the way to go. Trying an experiment next to see if it will fit in a car by dropping the rear seat and stuffing a lot of the butt end in the trunk.

Nice surf rod
June 23, 2016
Everything flies with this rod. Kind of weird where it breaks down, not in half. More like 70/30. So the handle has no eyes on it. Think that's ok really, unless you're expecting to break it down to fit in a small car or trunk. It's also probably part of why they charge an extra fee for "oversized" packaging. The rod arrived in a very heavy cardboard tube that's too nice to just throw away. Rod is really a huckster, I'm throwing all my striper lures 15-20 yards further with this rod and a new Daiwa Coastal reel. Only complaint would be that for this price point, the rod should have a hook anchor on the butt end of the rod. Minor annoyance.

My favorite surf rod
May 8, 2016
I have a few St Croix legends and some nice rods but oddly this one is my new fav. I took it this weekend and threw 5oz and a chunk and it was just great! No I haven't caught a fish on it yet, but I'm pretty damn sure it will do perfect for a big red. I have used a heavier mojo and bought this one for a little more action during fish fighting. I feels like the perfect middle of the road rod.
I really expected these to not be as good since they made in MX and not the USA like other rods, but for $250 which ain't cheap, the rod performed.
Pros
  • Construction, cast ability, value

  • Mojo rods are good/better then most for the $$

Is the mojo surf casting rods suitable for Saragossa spinning reels? In a prior question tackle direct  indicated casting rods would pair up well with several Saragossa models. Can the mojo rods be utilized

For both conventional and spinners?

1 Answer
St. Croix has a Mojo Surf Series of casting rods.

The Saragossa would still be an excellent choice paired with a Mojo Surf spinning rod.

Would you recommend a saragosa 5000, 6000, or 8000 set up with these rods of would they be too heavy?
1 Answer
The Shimano 5000 or 6000 would be great reels to match with St. Croix Mojo Surf Casting Rods. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.

How will this rod pair with a, Shimano Stella, STL6000SWBHG reel?
1 Answer
The St. Croix Mojo Surf Casting Rods would pair up with the Shimano Stella SWB STL6000SWBHG Saltwater Spinning Reel very nicely. This combo will be very balanced and the reel with the higher gear ratio will work out nicely for surf fishing.

Does the 10'6'' casting model also have glass in the tip of the rod? Does glass in the tip of the rod make the tip anymore fragile?
1 Answer
The 10'6 casting model does not have glass in the tip. Its only in the Mojo bass crank bait rod and the 10'6 surf spinning model.

What reel would you use with a 11` st coix rmojo surf casting rod?
1 Answer
This rod would would pair well with a Shimano Stratic 6000FJ or 8000FJ. I would recommend the 8000FJ if you were primarily using the combo for throwing baits with heavier lead. The 6000FJ would be ideal for lures and lighter weights when bait fishing.

Honestly I have a vicious hook set. Have broken plenty of rods because of that reason. Is the mojo worth the money? Is it durable? Can it take the pressure?
1 Answer
Yes, the backbone of the mojo surf in the medium heavy to a heavy would suffice a relatively high impact hook setting.
