It's good, sometimes
June 26, 2022
Use it for bass and blued mostly from the boat, the spinning setup is great for casting and whipping jigs around. My issue is with the lure loop on the base of the rod. The loop is so stinking big it catches my line as I'm reeling. The line laps onto the spinning reel but if it even slaps the rod it gets caught somehow, so i ripped the lure loop off.
Pros
  • Purple
  • Stiff
  • Casts well
Cons
  • Dumb Lure loop - whatever it's called I forget...

This is my second Mojo Salt rod and I must say I’m impressed with how light and strong it is. I ordered the Medium Moderate Fast and paired with a Seigler Small Game Narrow and love it! I will definitely be buying a X or XX heavy next.

My Favorite Rod
May 24, 2021
I use this rod for vertical jigging at the nearshore reef. I recently caught a 4' Hammer Head Shark. He put up quite the fight but he was no match for this rod and VS reel. After a brief fight, I cranked him up and was able to release him. I've caught many size and species on this rod. Great rod!
Pros
  • strong, durable, sensitive
Cons
  • none

Strong rod
October 26, 2020
Rod is strong/super light but the holds for the guides are pretty small for fluorocarbon leader or top shot monofilament line.

Which would be a good fit for a Okuma andros 12II? Used for jigging and bottom fishing for snapper and grouper and deep dropping for tilefish?
1 Answer
Check out this model: https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-mjjc58hmf-mojo-jig-conventional-rod.html it is 5ft 8 an ideal length for bottom fishing and give you more control over the large grouper. Also with the 300g max lure rating will get you down to those tilefish as well. Also the Okuma andros will balance nicely on the reel seat.

How would the mojo jig 6â€â"¢6†m rod do for party boat fishing for fluke in NJ?
1 Answer
The 6'6'' M would be a good party boat rod for fluke fishing in NJ. A good reel to match with it would be a Penn Slammer 4500 for spinning or the Avet SX for conventional setup.

How does this rod compare to the Shimano trevala S? Looking to try more butterfly jigging for fluke and sea bass this summer of jersey shore in 40-90 foot. Going to put a sustain 5000 on it. What rod would better handle better?
1 Answer
The Mojo Jig would be more comprable to the original Trevala than it would be to the Trevala S. The rod is not as lightweight and the blank is not as thin as the Trevala S.

Hi, I am considering the St Croix MJJC66MHMF rod. I want a compact rod that I can maneuver easy on a skiff in the NJ bay or on a larger party boat where I need to fish around other anglers. I want something that I can jig a hi/low lightweight bucktail with a gulp teaser, and also a 4oz deadeye dick... What are your thoughts and what reels would match this setup well? If you could elaborate, and suggest a few reel options in different price ranges. Thank you, Mike
1 Answer
The St Croix MJJS66MHMF Mojo Jig Spinning Rod is a good choice of a rod to go along with a smaller Shimano saragosa or a Penn Spinfisher V.
