Rod came packaged securely, but the guides were very much out of alignment (looking down the blank some guides were leaning more to the left or right) other then that it’s a not a bad rod for the price. Might have just got a lemon.

Recently purchased 2 of these in store, both 66 MH Spinning. They seem like a nice upgrade from the Premier series rods I currently own. They are light, sensitive tip and seem well built with better guides. I will put their durability to the test this summer on my boat. I own about 12 other St Croix Rods all made in USA which is one of the main reasons I stick with them so I was sad to see when I got home that these rods are not made in USA.

The JIS76MHF: A workhorse

I've used the JIS76MHF for my last three sessions outside the reefs. I've paired it with a Daiwa BQ MQ 3000. It's a great lightweight set up that I've actually ended up using for deep saltwater dropshop in 30 to 100 yards depths. It has performed remarkably well when tackling hard fighting 10+ lbs red grouper or spangled emperor.

Good utility inshore rod for kayakers

The medium heavy rod is a solid all-round performer - I use it to cast and troll lures from my saltwater kayak and it can still be called upon to do some jigging. I also have the medium light, and St. Croix replaced it under warranty after an unexpected and unfortunate fight with a ray, so I feel doubly confident about the brand.

Hi, Surf rods tend to be long lengths anywhere from 8ft to 12ft or more and can have variable actions and heavy lure weight ratings that allow the angler to cast far distances and reach areas where smaller rods are unable to cast. Inshore rods tend to be smaller lengths between 6ft-8ft and are usually much lighter in both physical weight and lure weight ratings. This allows the angler to use either a lighter action rod where casting distance may not needed or a lighter lure and presentation would be the best. Based on your fishing application I would recommend a St. Croix JIS79XHMF Mojo Inshore Spinning Rod, https://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-jis79xhmf-mojo-inshore-spinning-rod.html This is a heavier Inshore rod would allow you to use heavier weights and would be ideal targeting Halibut off a pier. For snook and tarponI would go with the 7’6 MH and match it up with a 4000 or 5000 inshore reel. Ifyou want to go a bit lighter the 7’M is rated for lures 3/8-3/4oz and with a3000 reel can do pretty much anything you need it to do.

I would generally recommend pairing this rod model with a 4000 or 5000 size reel,
The Saltist 4500 would be a perfect match, Penns are usually slightly larger so a 4000 size would pair well.
I would highly recommend also looking at the Shimano Stradic FL or Daiwa Ballistic models to keep this set up nice and lightweight

Looking to pair my Penn Clash 4000 with either a MH/H or 7/7.6 for fluke and stripped bass fishing. What do you suggest ?

I'd suggest the 7' for boat fishing or bank fishing. You may want to go with the 7'6" if you are fishing from shore and want to increase your casting distance. As far as choosing between the MH or H I would consider how heavy the lures and/or weight that you'll be using and select the one that falls most within the lure weight range of the rod.

The handle on MIS70MF is handle number 1 in the main picture on the webpage. The handle measures a total of 17" from the butt end of the rod to the top of the cork foregrip. The butt section measures approximately 12" from the end to the bottom of the reel seat.
