New favorite rod
June 13, 2022
I love that the reel seat section does not flex under load like my 7' Avid UL, giving it the feeling of being able to handle all species of panfish well, and provide enough backbone to handle bigger fish if they should end up on the hook. The tip is plenty sensitive although it may feel a little stiffer, and less noodley then many UL class rods. I actually find this more of a plus for me. As many have stated, the fast action of this rod may be more of a moderate fast, but did not find this to be an issue.

In testing I caught over 40 bluegills of sizes ranging from very small to 9", 10 bass from 7 - 11", and a large bullfrog, with the rod handling them all as I expected. However, depending on personal preference, the UL action may be the better option to experience the fight of smaller fish species.

Perfect Crappie rod
June 23, 2019
This might be the perfect all around Crappie rod. Well balanced and very sensitive. I have used it with a slip float and could feel the hits. It is my go to panfish rod and I have caught a lot of smallmouth bass also.

A beautiful rod. Very sensitive and extremely well balanced rod. Maybe a little over the top for panfish but that is exactly what i wanted. Will purchase the LEP69lf in the near future.
Pros
  • 1.. super sensitive 2.. very well balanced 3.. super light in weight 4.. just a beautiful rod (fit and finish are perfect).
Cons
  • can't think of a darn thing!

Hello Tommy,

The Shimano Stella Fk 1000 would pair up great with the St.Croix 7 foot Legend Elite Panfish rod.

Would the Shimano Stella 1000FK go with the 7 foot model or should I go with a bigger reel size? Like maybe a Stella FK C 2500 S?
1 Answer
Hi Tommy, The Shimano Stella FK in 2500 will fit the 7ft St Croix Legend Elite Panfish Rod better than the 1000. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!

Would the Shimano Stella 1000 FJ be a good pair with the 5’6” UL fast rod? I’d be mostly bank fishing into a creek. Would the UL be to whippie for crappie or should I go with a lite rod? Thanks
1 Answer
Hello Jeff,

The Stella 1000FJ would pair well with this rod. The rod will definitely have a super soft power but for what you will be doing, will fair well and be a super fun time when reeling in those (hopefully) big Crappie!

Other than a difference in 3 inches how does the 6'-9" light model differ from the 7'-0" light model? I see the 7' model says extra fast where the 6'-9" shows fast action. When you you want one or the other?
1 Answer
The action, recommended line weight, and lure weight are the only differences other than size.
