Amazing lure

most underrated aspect of spoolteks is how easily you feel the tail vibrate when it's swimming right

Great swimbait but expensive.

The 4" spoolteks are awesome and catch almost everything from fresh to saltwater. Only down side is the price because they do get snagged easily if your not carful.
Pros
  • They work
Cons
  • Price

Gets bit but breaks
March 29, 2019
I've used these lures countless times and have caught peacock pass, tarpon, and snook on it, however while fighting a decently sized tarpon I had the cable break on me. Despite that this lure is great but must be thoroughly washed and kept away from sticky bottom as once it's stuck it's gone.

It worked

I bought the 4 inch version because I’d heard people were using these with success. Went beach fishing and landed two the two biggest snook I’ve ever caught, 28 and 34 inches.
Pros
  • You can scale down your leader size which should increase strikes. Don?t have to worry about your leader rubbing through. They work!
Cons
  • Price obviously. My second snook swallowed the lure and somehow the hook was down in her gills. It was painful cutting out a 15 dollar lure but they do work. I actually had to cut the steel leader to get it out so I couldn?t reuse it

Moonlight Madness From sandy shore
June 1, 2018
While dozens of other anglers were throwing live baits and many "proven" favorite lures trying to entice snook and redfish bites without success after midnight on a full moon on a pier in the Fort Pierce, Florida inlet I fished from the sandy shoreline. My Spooltek 4" Threadfin Fatty got dozens of hits or resulted in hooked fish making an exciting night of fishing for me during slack and light tide periods. I learned lessons that I hadn't seen or paid attention to in product instructions or reviews. My previous experiences using this Spooltek lure were in fresh water from a boat in 10' deep water. No problems. My most recent use of the same lure during my midnight madness was in high salt content water in fairly shallow water with very fine sand bottom where attacking fish stirred up sand. By the time I had a chance to rinse my gear the next morning the damage was done. The combination of salt water and fine silt had rusted the eye of the hook, jammed the wire leader around the tiny spool under the winding knob in the head of the lure. Once home I tried to free the leader winding mechanism using using pliers after rinsing in water, drying, and eventually spraying silicone lubricant into the mechanical mechanism. I had the leader deployed and extended about 2 inches when it was pulled back in. The multi-strand wire leader began to fray and after considerable time I finally gave up and will try to retire a hook on the stub of a leader. My recommendation is IF FISHING IN SALT WATER OR SANDY AREAS THOROUGHLY RINSE SPOOLTEK WINDING MECHANISM WITH FRESH WATER AND DRY WITH THE LEADER AND HOOK DEPLOYED. If this review was just based on the performance as an attractive effective lure it would be 5 stars. My bottom line solution was to replace my "lost" Spooltek fatty by purchasing 2 more.
Pros
  • Great action - attracts or enrages fish to hit and hookup
Cons
  • Leader winding mechanism is subject to damage from sand and salt, Rinse thoroughly and dry with leader extended after each use.

swims nicely, but I haven't caught any fish yet

This lure has a great swimming action, but I have yet to entice a fish to bite on it. To be fair, I am only fishing from shore or a pier. Perhaps it would be better from a boat.
Pros
  • great swimming action with paddle tail
Cons
  • Has yet to work for me from shore or peir

Absolutely love the way this lure swims in the water ontop of it being the perfect weight for my medium heavy action rod, still haven't caught a fish on it but will soon enough.
Cons
  • Line pulls out completely on any minor snag making it the leader have to be reeled in multiple times.

Did not really have a problem with the lure except the swimming action isnt as great as the 6 in or 9 in but the spoolteks sure are better than using other swimbaits.
