Very disapointed here

I have a huge amount of Simms gear of all kinds and was pretty excited about these shoes. Many of the reviews online were very encouraging when they first came out and given my history with other Simms products from jackets, base layers, gloves, mid layers, all kinds of stuff, I was pretty confident that these would be perfect for summer wading use and boat use. I ordered the correct size shoe for my foot, when they came they were a bit tight in the house, but the sizing on the sole of the shoe was perfect so I trusted in Simms that they knew what they were doing and that these would loosen up with use or be looser when wet so I took them out once to go clamming. I was wrong, they get tighter when wet, to the point where I couldn't wait to take them off. These shoes are too tight in the toe and end up causing blisters on the tops of your toes, the heal is also oddly way too tight, and the midsection is very narrow. I called Simms and told them what happened and the person I spoke to was happy to exchange them for me for a size up. Then when the replacements hadn't shipped I called and spoke to someone who told me that since I had worn them outside (these are boat/wading shoes I remind you) they could not exchange them despite the fact that I had already spoken to someone before I shipped them back to Montana. Now if this were the only issue I'd say to you just get a size up and get them. But this mismatch sizing from the foot well to the constriction of the show upper is one thing. These shoes didn't dry out after days of sitting out of the water. These are boat shoes and they're going to get wet, they look like they're made of a material that will dry quickly for someone who will use them in wet environments regularly. They will not, your feet will stay wet in these shoes and get cold, add the loss of circulation from the constriction and you'll be very unhappy. Simms really fell short here. I have so many Simms products and love them all, this one was fail from product to customer service.
Pros
  • comfortable sole

  • Way too tight
  • Less comfortable when wet

Beyond uncomfortable

I really wanted to like these shoes as I really have a need for them. I didn't want to encase my feet in rubber boots in the Florida sun. I wore these once on one 8 hour trip. They fit fine but there is no padding to them and the foot bed is way too stiff for my liking. At the end of the day my feet and legs were more sore than they have ever been from being on the boat. YMMV
Pros
  • nice looking
  • decent sole grip
  • fit to size
Cons
  • foot bed way too stiff
  • arch support very high-really bad for flat foot folks
  • shed excess water but stayed very moist all day

Great concept

Love the shoe and the concept. Not as comfortable without socks and does rub on people with wider feet. Not something for walking long distances but great for the boat or a quick wade
Pros
  • Great on the rocks
Cons
  • All Simms shoes seem to be too narrow and sized small. Try before you buy
