Simms Flyweight Neoprene Wet Wading Socks Functional in the Surf, too !
March 7, 2022
Due to the fact that almost all kinds and brands of waders are sold out or on backorder , I ordered the last pair of Simms neoprene socks thinking that if it's being used by Montana trout fisherman fishing in cold mountain streams and rivers, it should work for surf fishing for stripers in New Jersey.
Fortunately, it was a unseasonably warm day today in February (air temp 64*, water temp 44*) , so I decided to test while wearing my old StormR Fusion jacket and bib. Yes, your feet DO get wet (it's not waterproof, that's why it's call wet wading) , but the 2.5mm thickness keeps your feet warm like the neoprene wetsuits scuba divers and surfers wear . The socks were extremely comfortable and did not bind or bunch up in my boots.
The only caveat is that I made the FORTUNATE mistake of buying it a size bigger than usual . I bought an XL, made for "size 12 or larger" , even though I wear a size 11 Clark's dress shoes . It fit so perfectly , especially over the mid-calf area without acting like a tourniquet. At least I know there's a viable alternative to change into when I find a tear in my stockingfoot waders between blitzes.
