- memory of loose wraps in package makes first few drops not smooth and storage loose on reel but that was corrected after use

It's easy to attach to the main line. However, the coils of the wind-on were stuck together in the package from what I assume is the glue used for the connection from the braid to the fluoro.

high quality wind on for a reasonable price. Never had a problem with the braided loop failing when attached to my bimini twists. Caught 100's of tuna on these wind on's and they just work.

Can I use a spider hitch to connect instead of a bimini twist? What other knots are recommended besides the BT? Thanks.

You can use a Spider Hitch if you want. The Bimini is 100% of the line strength and the Spider Hitch isn't quite as strong.
