this lure is a great bait for just about anything. I love the anchovy look of the color. Bass can't resist it. I can't wait to try it out on the tuna this year.

This bait has awesome action and a great profile that the fish love. This is one of my favorite lures to use off the jetties but it is also a great tuna lure if the hook is swapped out for a stronger one.
Pros
  • Action
  • Profile
Cons
  • Gets caught in the wind when casting.

Waxwing WW088
January 22, 2020
I recently purchased the WW088 Sardine Waxwing from TackleDirect. The service & feedback was very good considering it is very difficult to source a reliable supplier for Waxwing lures.
I can highly recommend TackleDirect to anybody looking for quality fishing products.

Almost the only thing I use
October 25, 2018
I surfcast in the NYC-LI-NJ area, beaches mainly, a few rock jetties. Also fish in Martha's Vineyard in August, beaches. The Bone colored Waxwing (size: Boy) has probably caught me over 50 fish in the last few years. Mainly school stripers, but also a few keepers. Also I've caught blues, albies, mackerel (in Maine), flounder and sea robins on this thing, everything hits it.

It has an amazing waggle to it, swims about 2ft below surface on a regular retrieve, and casts exceptionally well on my 9' surf rod. I fish during dawn, day and dusk, not a night guy, so maybe that's why the Bone color has worked best for me.

I also love the double-hook, it looks like a tail, helps with the waggle, and doesn't get messy like a treble can when unhooking your fish.

Looks aren't everyting

If I didn't know better, I would think this lure is a gimmick, but it really works! Took a couple of Waxwings on a recent 8-day trip out of San Diego. The yellowtail jumped all over them.

Is it sinking lure?
1 Answer
Weh-Yang,

The Shimano Waxwing is a sinking/suspending lure.  After casting, the longer you let it sink the deeper the retrieve in the water column will be.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
