I've used the 4000 a few times in saltwater bays, and it hasn't let me down. It reeled in a 70-80 lb. Southern Stingray (eventually) and it was great with ~2' long Sandbar Sharks. My favorite reel to use when kayaking the bays.

Was waiting and waiting for this reel to be back in stock n just happend to be bored one night and checked out TD n boom she was in stock, n thank god i ordered it that night bc they were out of stock by the morning, but this reel is so smooth and light its insane n did i mention it has 24lb drag!!! N i really like the EVA powerhandle knob (5000 model). My new favorite inshore reel

Love this reel. Likely will get another in a different size. But wish spare spools were available so I can switch lines easily without having to carry additional rods (I fish mostly by walking streambanks or lake shorelines and not convenient to carry multiple rods).
Pros
- Super smooth drag
- Drag knob increases in very small increments, enabling to get the perfect drag strength
- Super smooth reeling action
- Casts really well
Cons
- Plastic clicker gear under the spool will likely wear out
- The inside of the lip of the spool has a rough finish which might collect dirt and slime more than smooth finish and concerned that this will wear on the line. The very outer edge of the spool lip is smooth, so maybe its not a problem.
- Spare spools are not available yet

Just ordered and received my new Shimano Ultegra FC 2500. This is now my highest end reel I have. Out of the box the look and feel of this reel is amazing. Well balanced, smooth action, I will be getting another one soon. Tackle Direct delivery was fast, arrived a day earlier than expected to my happy surprise. 2021 model thank you TD will be back soon. Yes this reel can certainly be used in salt water, it has the X-Protect feature from shimano which is geared towards salt protection, like any reel proper care and maintenance is key to the longevity of these reels in saly conditions
