Redesigned for 2019, the new Shimano Terez Conventional Rods are stronger, lighter, and better suited to dominate the blue water than ever before. Featuring Shimano's Spiral-X and Hi-Power X construction, the new Terez is built on one of the world's most advanced blanks and is fitted with all custom components for a rod that is truly built to perfection. Spiral X construction consists of multiple layers comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions, resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This construction results in an extremely responsive rod that allows for instant power transmission and greatly enhances fish fighting capabilities. Spiral X blanks are 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than standard blank construction. These advanced blanks are equipped custom Shimano Aluminum Reel Seats and wrapped with all new Fuji BKW Alconite frame guides. The 2019 Terez series covers a wide spectrum of offshore angling techniques by consisting of 12 casting models, 9 spinning, and 2 rail rods. Whether you’re fishing the Northeast or Southeast, Gulf Coast or West Coast, or traveling the world in search of exotic trophies, there's a Terez rod to fit any application.

Wow just wow

I have 2 of them 1 in xh and other in xxh. Man they are light u feel like your gonna break them. I caught a 40lb grouper on the xh with a avet lx raptor that's stuck itself in the rocks and I mean the rod was bent almost in half and the rod held beautifully. Amazing rods from shimano and I was mainly a st croix guy.

Shimano Terez Conventional Rod
August 30, 2021
Bought this rod for my trip to Loreto, Baja California. Paired it with a Shimano Tranx 400 with 65 lbs braid and 40-80 lbs leader. Combo was awesome. Used it to cast hard baits into the rocks or live bait. Was able to pull on Pargo and Group that wanted to go back into the rocks with plenty of power. I would recommend this rod.

Very Modern
August 10, 2021
Shimano is very good at updating their product lines often incrementally increasing the quality over time. This rod is a very versatile addition to any collection and utilizes some of the most advanced materials and production techniques. My AVET LX MC Raptor fits very nicely on this rod and makes a great do it all salt water combo.
Pros
  • Modern, Elegant, overall nice build quality and components.
Cons
  • A little on the expensive side for what you are getting, perhaps a little vulnerable to quick snappy input, while elegant this rod may prove fragile.

Perfect All-Around Rod
November 16, 2020
Paired a TZC66XH with a talica 12. The rod is light and very sensitive. Enough back-bone to pull any fish up off the reefs. My go-to for just about any fish in the gulf. Caught groupers, snappers, triggerfish, and sharks.
Pros
  • Light and sensitive. Doesn?t feel like your fishing with a telephone pole.
Cons
  • None.

June 15, 2020
This rod is amazing. I used it for lingcod and bottom fish.. it can handle a lot of pressure. I can’t wait for albacore tuna to bend this rod. Tight line...
Pros
  • Great rod for almost every fish
Cons
  • Nothing I can?t say bad about this rod

Wish I could use it

I got the rod on time and it was packed very well in a sturdy cardboard tube and had bubble packed inside to protect the tip.
The rod feels great paired with my Talica 12. But due to the Covid 19 situation I have not been able to go out and use it. I was all geared up to go White Seabass fishing in March but trip got cancelled.

Would rather have rollers on this then eyes
October 19, 2018
It is really annoying when an eye breaks off your expensive line or frays it when you have a big fish on. That stuff is not cheap, and most eyes will eventually do it because they are cheap.

Excellent for Large Fish..........
November 24, 2017
I've got this for my sturgeon fishing and this is one heck of a rod....I would not trade it or use other models or brands, this has a great backbone and with a sensitive tip that I have no problem detecting a fish that taking on the bait. I've also used this rod for Salmon and stripers and I'm am impressed of the performance it gives me. I've paired it with the new Daiwa Lexa 400HD 7.1:1 ratio on 65lb Power Pro braid and never looked back........with the reel fast high speed ratio,I cannot have the fish to stay slack on my line during reel pumping.........I highly recommend this rod and reel combo for those that do fish for this species........
Pros
  • Excellent backbone power with the sensitive tip and quality K guides.
Cons
  • Nice to have a free HD bag covers during traveling to and from.......as a single item purchase of the rods high cost.

Excellent rods. Just which they made one with removable butt section.
July 29, 2017
I bought one of these the moment it came out when I saw the 80-200# rating and picked up the rod and felt the lightness. It was bright red and most thought it was a joke when I boarded the boat loaded with 80's and 50's. At the time I put the new accurate boss extreme 500 on it because shimano really didn't make a reel like the talica back then. Well after landing a medium bluefin and a 95# yellowfin with relative ease with a stand up clip on belt, I was hooked on this light tackle gear. You can put all the heat most stand up fisherman can take with this gear. It is so light and powerful you are simply not fighting the gear. It was a real pleasure to fish with this rod. On one pass we hooked two yellows about 65#, one was on the terez with the accurate and the other was on a classic 50W tiagra set up. I had the fish whipped and released before the other fish was anywhere near the boat. The efficiency of the terez along with the talica II reels are impressive. I have since sold all my classic tiagra gear and only fish with talica/terez gear now. It is a no brainer. I have seen 800# marlin and 600# bluefin landed with terez/talica II's . It is the only way to go nowadays. IMO. Braided line has made all this possible. If you fish with mono, then there is a reason for the big heavy gear but this is the best choice by far if you like stand up fishing. Try it. You will not regret it.
Pros
  • Light, strong, good warranty
Cons
  • They keep changing the design, and colors too frequently. There were too many combinations and now they are all black. Black is OK. I would like to see a removable butt option with and without roller guides so I could install a winthrop adjustabutt. Also the current composite bent butt is very slippery, It is really light which is good but they will and have fly out of the rod holder on a strike. Make SURE you have a rod tether on your bent butt or you will see $1700 of gear go into the drink.

Sweet rods
September 23, 2013
I have a couple of these rods in different actions and power. I mainly use them for either jigging or bait fishing in the NE. The rods are sensitive to the bites and the heavier rods are able to sling 20 oz jigs without any problems. The rods are light and you don't feel the strain on your arms or back after a long day of fishing. One thing you should be aware of - the line guides show signs of rust stains at the base after multiple uses. I rinse my rod/reels down after each trip and have noticed rust stains due to the guide seat not totally sealed. For the cost of these rods, little details like this is not acceptable. I'd expect much better quality control.
Pros
  • light powerful rods.
Cons
  • Line guides show signs of rust even at the base.

I’m wondering if a Terez TZC66XH rod matches up well with a Penn International VISX16.  The application would be trolling and chunking for small-mid sized pelagics (Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin) and bottom fishing 200-400ft depths. Thanks.

This combo would be agood match for your application.
