Utilizing some of the most advanced rod manufacturing technologies to set a new gold standard, the Shimano Teramar XX Southwest Casting Rods are the ultimate technique-specific series of rods for Gulf Coast anglers. These rods offer powers, actions, and features that cater to popular techniques used in the Gulf region for targeting redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and other inshore game fish. The fast parabolic actions of the Teramar XX SW load deep into the backbone to ensure treble hooks and light wire jig hooks won't pull out, while still having plenty of power to handle hard fighting fish. The Teramar XX SW Rods are built on blanks featuring Shimano's highly touted Spiral-X and Hi-Power X construction. Spiral X construction consists of multiple layers comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions, resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This construction results in an extremely responsive rod that allows for instant power transmission and greatly enhances fish fighting capabilities. Spiral X blanks are 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than standard blank construction. These state-of-the-art blanks are fitted with premium quality components, including Fuji FazLite Guides and split grip handles composed of EVA foam and AA cork.

Upper Texas coast.
Best. Rod. Ever.

Texas coastal fisherman for 60 years, mostly the big three - trout, reds, and flounder. Been wade fishing 3-4 times with this rod. Paired with the Shimano Scorpion 19 DC. Don’t think I have ever owned a more well-balanced combination. But, the review is for the rod. Perfect flex point and action for throwing soft plastics in the 1/4 oz range, as designed. Distance is much better than other rods tried with this reel. Think that would be true for other bait casters, as well. Light weight and perfect blend of tip sensitivity and rod backbone for feel and hook set make this rod a joy to use all day. There are no negatives, except, maybe, the cost, but you get what you pay for.
Pros
  • Perfect in every respect - weight, sensitivity, flex, backbone.
Cons
  • None.

I just used this rod deep in the everglades and was very impressed. Spent 2 days casting tight up under the mangroves and landed sever Snook the biggest was 33" and had no problems!
Pros
  • 6'6" is perfect for precise casting up under the mangroves and its a very light rod with tons of backbone.
Cons
  • Nothing yet.
