Amazing Inshore Reel
January 29, 2022
The Twinpower XD in the 3000 size is one of the best inshore reels I have ever owned so much so that I have picked up an additional two. Extremely light weight with perfect ergonomics. Has probably the best stock reel handle and knob I have ever used. Easily handles fish in the 20 lb class size and with 30 lb fish if played right. Yes they are on the pricey side but for the quality and the features I think they are worth the price especially considering the price for the next level up.

Tough, smooth reel for inshore fishing
December 30, 2020
I fish almost exclusively inshore and often from a kayak or wade fishing. This reel has become my favorite by exceeding my expectations with its smooth casting and a drag system can handle anything a big snook or redfish dishes out. Maybe juvenile tarpon? Time will tell.
Great reel and worth every penny.

Purchased (2) of the 4000 models six months ago. Always been a huge shimano fan and probably own over 40 different reels and models. This one is a real winner and the 4000 & 5000 are the best I have ever used. A little pricey but worth every dollar

My Favorite!!
March 23, 2018
I have several of these reels and ordered them before they were even out last year! Jury is back on the performance. Amazingly passed all the test with flying colors. Awesome reel, my reels were used to catch fish from 1lb to 60lb and did not miss a step the whole way. At the end of the season, had them cleaned and they are back in service again. Outstanding quality reel! I do recommend. Get the quality of a Stella at a much better price point. IMO
Pros
  • Just feel the high quality while using! Durable, strong, and user friendly for all ages!
Cons
  • Higher price point than most spinning reels, BUT you get what you pay for,, I'm a believer.

Very light and holds up to Saltwater
February 16, 2018
Typical Shimano smoothness.
Light - much ligher than the SW version and so far holds up fine using it in the surf.

Does not feel as sturdy or beefy as the SW version but does not seem to be an issue.

Great reel
September 18, 2017
I am extremely happy with these reels. Long time user of upper line of 4000 and 5000 size Shimano reels, Stradics, Sustains, and various Stellas. I now have 3 of the new Twin Power XDC5000 reels, all purchased from Tackle Direct. Reels are used for surf fishing, repetitive casting and fast retrievial of predominantly 2 oz. lead lures. Casting distance, light weight, and fast retrieval speed are key. The TP's are near perfect in every way. Been doing this for nearly 20 years and have used a bunch of different reels of many brands in the never ending quest to improve. These by far are the best for my use to date.

As usual, great service from Tackle Direct. Courteous, fast, good inventory, and competitive pricing.

Smooth as glass
July 19, 2017
While I had intended on testing the Twin Power XD 3000XG and the 5000XG in Florida for a week of fishing inshore for Tarpon, Snook and Redfish and offshore for Permit and Cobia and Snapper on the wrecks in and around Naples the weather prevented me from getting out for four straight days. I was able to able to catch some Bluefish and Striper in NJ this Spring and early Summer. The reels are smooth as glass (both cranking and drag). While these reels are pricey, I do plan on using them for a very long time.
Pros
  • Smoothness, Casting. Drag
Cons
  • The handle knob on the 3000 size TP XD is too small.

So light and so powerful!
June 10, 2017
I bought this real to go with my 7' St Croix legend Trek and its a dream! I fish the surf for fluke and I feel with this setup I can handle much larger fish on very light tackle. The reel is shimano smooth and it fits 150 yards of 15lb super slick. Great looking reel and packed with all the features of Stella at half the price.
Pros
  • Super strong
  • Feather light
  • Looks great
Cons
  • Expensive

Would you suggest this reel for a 10'6'' surf rod ? Torn between this reel, the twinpower sw, a van staal vr, or maybe the salt x when it comes out.
1 Answer
The 8000 twinpower would pair up best with the 10'6" surf rod

What is the difference between the Twinpower XD and the sustain FI? Specifically the 3000 size. They seem to have all the same features to me just the price is different.
1 Answer
The 3000 Twinpower XD has 37 inches per crank whereas the Sustain FI only has 35 inches per crank. The Twinpower XD has a gear ratio of 6.4 and the Sustain FI has a gear ratio of 6.0:1. The two reels do have the same line capacity, and have the same max drag. The remaining two differences are ball bearings and weight of the reel itself. The Twinpower XD has 9+1, and the Sustain has 8+1 ball bearings. Lastly, the Twinpower weighs a bit heavier than the Sustain FI weighing 8.3 oz and the Sustain weighs only 7.9 oz's.

What is the difference between the twin power XG series and these XD series, currently looking to pick up one from you guys
1 Answer
The Shimano TwinPower XD's are smaller reels in the Twin Power series. Shimano wanted to make the twin power series with lighter and durable reels. The Shimano Twinpower XD series does just that. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.

Hi what material is the body and is sealed like the van staal ? Thankyou
2 Answers
The Shimano Twinpower XD Spinning Reels has a Hagane metal approved for use in saltwater. This reel is not as sealed as a Van Staal would be. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.
Submitted by: Donald on February 22, 2017
Carlos. Hello this reel has a Hahane body. The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. This reel is not sealed like the van staal.
