Given a complete overhaul for 2021, the Shimano Twin Power SW C Spinning Reels check all the right boxes for maximum performance in challenging offshore applications. Now featuring the latest Shimano innovations and technologies brought down from their flagship series, the Twin Power SW is more capable than ever. The addition of Shimano's Infinity Drive technology provides anglers with more cranking power under load, optimizing winding torque by an additional 26%. Also new is the incorporation of the Heatsink Drag system borrowed from the Stella SW C on the 10000 and 14000 sizes. This feature delivers overwhelming drag performance during blistering runs by powerful game fish by dissipating heat away from the spool to reduce drag-force drop caused by friction. The Heatsink Drag also provides insulation against potentially damaging heat flowing into the line, ensuring that line strength is preserved during long drawn out battles. A slew of other proprietary Shimano technologies make their return to solidify the Twin Power SW C as a top contender among offshore spinning reels. Whether targeting reef species with jigs or pitching live baits to pelagics, the new Twin Power SW empowers anglers to have a distinct advantage and conquer any battle.

I love Twin Powers

Great reel for whatever you intend to use it for. I have 4k and 5k Twinpower FD's that I love. Just got a 14K SW and it seems like everything I would've expected. Great high end reel.

great mid size inshore real
July 12, 2022
i bought this to replace a saragosa SW and couldn't have been happier. The Saragosa is a workhorse but the Twin Power SW is an amazing lightweight, smooth, and powerful real. It feels lighter then its listed when in use and i can fish it all day. Looks great and performs even better. Will certainly purchase again in the future.

So smooth, refined and elegant won't give this reel up. But if money was a little tight I'd stick with the saragosa.

This reel is un-real!
March 26, 2022
I paired this reel with my St. Croix Legend Surf Spinning Rod, Model: GSS106MHMF2 and the two together is a match made in heaven. I was using 3 to 6 ounces total weight (lure plus sinker) and the cast was so smooth and felt effortless, even into the wind. I am definitely buying the 6000 for my St. Croix Triumph Surf Travel Spinning Rod.
Pros
  • Casts just like my Stella reels without the $$$.
Cons
  • The bail arm does not automatically close.

I bought this reel to be used in the back bays, for my light setup. Oh man, I ran into a school of blitzing snapper blues. They are no match for the reel, its so powerful and smooth, it was an overkill.
Pros
  • Smooth and light. The handle knob is a plus. I like everything about it.

What's the difference between the TP SW and the TP FD models?
1 Answer
The Twin Power Saltwater (SW) is a reintroduction of the spinning reel as a contender for big game fish. With unbelievable power this Twin Power model carries all of the latest features from the flagship models down into this one. Shimano's Infinity Drive technology borrowed from the Stella SW this feature delivers overwhelming drag performance during blistering runs by powerful game fish by dissipating heat away from the spool to reduce drag-force drop caused by friction. Whether targeting reef species with jigs or pitching live baits to pelagics. The SW also includes a technology not seen on the FD: INFINITY DRIVE  a new construction made for spinning reels with the goal to realize lighter winding with both load and no load.

How do these compare with the Saragosa for surf use? Also would 6000 be a good fit for Avid 9"6" MH used for chunking?
1 Answer
You'd be better suited in the surf with a Saragosa, but both reels will perform well. The 6000 with a 9'6 is more ideal for casting lures however you could use it for light chunking.

the 8000 would be a little large for the 10'6 especially if you plan on casting lures. It would work fine if you just plan on using live/chunk bait but for lures it would be difficult to make a lot  of casts with the 8000 paired with a 10'6.
