Redesigned for 2021, the Shimano Teramar Northeast Spinning Rods are specially designed to cater to the needs of anglers fishing the inshore and nearshore waters of the Northeastern United States. Constructed using Shimano's proven TC4 rod technology, the Teramar Northeast Series provides exceptional balance and power to dominate in the toughest of battles. TC4 blanks have a fantastic reputation for being among the most durable in the industry and have tremendously strong backbones. From tip to butt, Shimano tailored every aspect of these rods to align with all of the prevalent fishing techniques for targeting popular game fish species. Teramar Northeast rods feature a Seaguide guide train, Fuij reel seats and refined EVA grips and handle configurations to enable anglers to comfortably fish all day with little fatigue when fighting hard-charging fish. Anglers in the New England and Mid-Atlantic fisheries will find the perfect models for things like slinging poppers to ravenous bluefish, live-lining bunker for striped bass, and deep water bottom fishing for fluke and black seabass.

Great Rod For Inshore Fishing
June 25, 2020
I have the 7' Medium Heavy Action Teramar NE and bought it early 2020. I have it paired with the Stradic FL 4000 spooled with 30lb Power Pro Super slick and this seems to be a really good match for balance, casting distance, etc. Used it on the boat for both bottom rig and jigging, and in the surf casting lures and it was worked well for all of them. Its fairly sensitive given the MH action, so i'm able to feel whats going on with smaller fish and handled a 24" blue fish with room to spare. Tried this out on the lake and landed a 6lb large mouth bass. The bass stood no chance against this teramar.

Keep in mind with this rod, i you really need to crank down on the reel lock nut. the threading could be improved in comparison to other rods i own but this doesn't cause any issues.

It seems like a very versatile and durable rod that i will continue to put to the test.

The perfect Hogfish rod

The 7 foot medium is perfect for Hogfishing and subtle snapper bites. This rod is super light, super sensitive but has all the backbone you need to lift something big up off the bottom. I have caught keeper grouper while knocker rig fishing with shrimp on this rod and had no issues getting them up. This is the ideal rod for fishing with a 3000-5000 size reel with 20-30 pound test. I always have 2 of these exact rods with a 4000 and a 5000 stradic on them. These are the only spinning rods I use offshore anymore and eventually I will buy 2 of the medium heavy 7 footers and keep 4000 stradics on the medium and the 5000 stradics on the medium heavy. Just be careful not to crush the guides, they will easily bend.
Pros
  • Balances well with 4000 stradic. Super sensitive and light. Brute power
Cons
  • Warranty is only a year. Delicate guides

Not as "Extra-Fast" as advertized

I have the 7'6 model paired with a Shimano Stella 6000 and it is one of my favorite setups for inshore striped bass fishing. the rod has more than enough power to pull large fish out of the rocks. my only gripe with the rod is the action is a little slower than advertised, i did not realize in the store when i purchased it but when working soft plastic twitch baits. The action pales in comparison to rods such as the Saint Croix Avid which I also have in the 7'6 and is much better for this application. I do love this rod but just not as advertised. Would be well suited for pitching live bait off a bait runner or working conventional plugs for sure.

I have a Saragosa 6K spooled with 30 lb power pro that I got as a gift and looking for a suggestion for a rod.  90% of my fishing is from the shore and 75% of the time using bait (sand fleas).  Fish for striped bass, mostly schoolies and slot fish but will get into some larger fish too.  Some of the artificials I use are on the heavy side (1 1/2 oz.).  Casting distance isn't an issue since most of the fish are in tight to the beach.  I don't need a long surf casting rod because of that and because I do fish off a boat sometimes.  Was looking at the TMSE66MHB, TMSE70MB and the TMSE70MHB.  Big fan of Shimano products but am open to other suggestions if you think there is a more appropriate rod.  Thanks!

Hi Jason, based on your fishing application I would recommend a Shimano TMSE70MHB Teramar Northeast Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-tmse70mhb-teramar-northeast-spinning-rod.html This would be great for fishing for striped bass both off the beach and off the boat and other saltwater species. Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

What size reel would you recommend for this rod?

Hi Craig, I would recommend a 4000-5000 Spinning reel. Specifically I would recommend a Shimano STC5000XGFL Stradic FL Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-stc5000xgfl-stradic-fl-spinning-reel.html This would pair well and would be ideal for many saltwater fishing applications. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
