Shimano TLD50IILRSA Reel Description: You don't need a big boat to catch big fish. In fact, there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't catch a 250-pound thresher shark from your 20-foot center console boat. Unless you left your TLD at home. If you own a small fishing boat, or you often find yourself elbow-to-elbow with your angling compatriots on the large party boats, you need a reel that's both nimble and versatile. Our TLD reels are light in hand, so easy to shift they're almost mindless, and they're adaptable to any number of bluewater species from tuna to striped marlin. And because they're built by Shimano, durability is an inevitable part of the package. A large, private, ocean-going vessel may be neat, but it's not necessary. Just match the tackle to the situation. And let the fish fall where they may.

An $8.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

Better than expected, all the way around

I am blown away by the speed at which this combo arrived! Awesome service! With the TLD50IILRSA, you know what you're going to be getting. The rod was a question mark, but for the price I figured I had to try it. I'm so glad I did. Even higher quality than I was expecting. Great combo, great service. Thanks so much.

Good price.

Works well. I wish the butt end was longer, but it does the trick. Good combo and very durable. It's banged around the bed of my truck and there was no issue.

Trolling Combo Shimano / Tackle Direct
July 11, 2019
Nice tackle direct rod with the proven Shimano TLD series reel, all for a reasonable price. Timely Delivery. In addition, tackle direct followed my special request, and spooled both reels with 440 yards of 80lb Momoi for free. Cannot ask for more than that

Awesome

These reels are as big as my 9/0 Senator but with twice the drag and 2 speeds. The rod is a bit much for dolphin but I got a couple for wahoo and tuna also, so we will see how that works out this summer!
Pros
  • Heavy Duty. Good line capacity
Cons
  • Nothing so far

Tld's are good strong reels

This is a good price for this setup. I;m usually an Avet guy, but this Isn't bad for the price at all, especially on a combo like this which has a ton of drag, and as far as i know comes spooled for you already.

Does it come spooled?
1 Answer
It does not come spooled, but we can spool this with mono for free and if you would like braid you would just need to purchase the braid and we would spool it for you(no charge for spooling itself)

Can you recommend a line I can purchase, in tandem with rod that can be spooled, for beach sharking?
1 Answer
Hi Thomas, We recommend going with the Power Pro Spectra in 100 lbs for your needs ( https://www.tackledirect.com/powerpro-braided-spectra-fiber-fishing-line-moss-green-1500-yds.html ). Leave in the notes section of your order that you would like to have your reel spooled before shipping. Please contact our customer service center if you need assistance with your order!

Would this set up be suitable for land based shark fishing?
1 Answer
Hi Josh, The Shimano TLD 50 Combo paired with the TackleDirect Silver hook Standup rod will fair okay for land based sharking as long as you have the rod sit in a sand spike high enough to sit above the breakers. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with! Tight lines!

Is it good for large catfish trolling
1 Answer
Shay,

That combo might be a bit overkill for catfish unless your catfish are all over 50lbs that your catching.  The Shimano TLD20 /  TackleDirect TDSSUT661MHSB combo (SHM-3116) will be a better choice for catfishing whether trolling, drifting, or anchoring up.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Do you categorize this rod as a stiffer trolling rod or as a stand-up rod?  Thanks.
1 Answer
This rod is designed as a chunking/trolling combo which would make it more of a stand-up rod.

i am purchasing this combo .. is this a good set up for grouper fishing? and what kind of spooling is offered and how do i go about  getting it done ? top shot ?
1 Answer
This combo is better suited for trolling and chunking live bait for large game fish or sharks. This combo would certainly do the job wenching in grouper as well if you wish.

We do offer spooling in house, we would just ask that you add the braided line you would like spooled to your order, then leave a note in the comments section wishing to have the reel spooled with the line, any monofilament backing or top shot is provided just be sure to mention the amount and #test you desire

is this combo alright for high speed wahoo trolling?
1 Answer
This reel would be a fair option for a high speed Wahoo trolling application, however we would recommend a reel with an all metal body, that can handle a little more torque and heat that these fish can put on your equipment. Shimano Tiagra or Avet EXW models would be much better suited for high speed trolling
