This combo is a multi-purpose offshore trolling and chunking combo. Perfect all around outfits for big dolphin, Tuna, sailfish, striped, white, and smaller blue marlin on the troll. This combo is also an excellent choice for chunking and live bait fishing for Tuna, shark, and many other offshore species.

TackleDirect TDSSUT601MHSB Custom Rod Description:
  • Precision blend of graphite and fiberglass
  • Stainless steel frame, aluminum oxide turbo guides and tip top
  • Super tough solid tip construction
  • EVA comfort foregrip with tough slick butt
  • Machined aluminum double locking reel seat

  • Shimano TLD30IIA Reel Description:You don't need a big boat to catch big fish. In fact, there's absolutely no reason why you couldn't catch a 250-pound thresher shark from your 20-foot center console boat. Unless you left your TLD at home. If you own a small fishing boat, or you often find yourself elbow-to-elbow with your angling compatriots on the large party boats, you need a reel that's both nimble and versatile. Our TLD reels are light in hand, so easy to shift they're almost mindless, and they're adaptable to any number of bluewater species from tuna to striped marlin. And because they're built by Shimano, durability is an inevitable part of the package. A large, private, ocean-going vessel may be neat, but it's not necessary. Just match the tackle to the situation. And let the fish fall where they may.

An $8.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

High quality combo at a great price
April 27, 2022
I've used this on San Diego based Bluefin trips lately - Backed w 80# braid down to 60# mono, down to flouro leader at 50 or so. A few observations:
- it's a pretty heavy rig (esp the reel) for being at the reel w a flatfall, knife, or livebait / w sinker. For SD Bluefin, this has tremendous backbone, and no prob with Bluefins over 100# or well over
- Because it's so heavy, I actually prioritize my slightly lighter setups, which are still able to handle a 100 pound tuna and much lighter to carry at the rail
- this is my standard trolling rig and my backup to lighter rigs.
- The implied cost of rod is very good.. quality seems very good, though I prefer longer grip for the rail.
- Overall, this is my heavy fallback rig for San Diego Bluefins currently maxing at #150 or so. A well priced heavy combo for SoCal.

Tld's are good strong reels

This is a good price for this setup. I;m usually an Avet guy, but this Isn't bad for the price at all, especially on a combo like this which has a ton of drag, and as far as i know comes spolled for you already.

I have taken this rod and reel combo on 2 fishing trips so far and have nothing but praise it has handled everything thrown at it ! smooth drag great solid cranking power and the tackle direct rod is light weight and sensitive with all the back bone you could ask for while still fighting a fish whether it's a 10 lbs snapper 20 lb. cobia or a 150 lb shark it's a fantastic rig!

Is this a good combo for red snapper and grouper fishing?
1 Answer
Hi Mark, The TackleDirect Setup with the TLD Reel is not suitble for the fishing you are planning to do. We recommend looking at the TackleDirect Silver Hook Jigging rod combo paired with the Saltist 35H reel ( https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-saltist-star-drag-saltist35h-reel-tackledirect-tdscj66mh-conventional-jigging-combo.html ), or the TackleDirect Combo Silver Hook jigging rod with the Avet MXL G2 reel for your application. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!
